Pokemon GO Water Festival 2022: Date, Time, Bonuses, And More

The Pokemon GO Water Festival has returned for another year, this time being part of the Season of Alola. During this Pokemon GO event, new Pokemon will spawn, some bonuses will be offered, and there will be a series of challenges to participate in. Shiny Binacle, shiny Barbaracle, costumed Lapras, Dewpider, and Araquanid all make their Pokemon GO debut as part of the 2022 Water Festival. Pokemon GO Water Festival Date And Time

The Pokemon GO Water Festival runs for one week, starting on May 12 at 10am local time, and ending May 20 at 8pm local time. 

Pokemon GO Water Festival Bonuses

As always, there will be a variety of bonuses to look forward to in this event. 

  • Shiny Binacle and shiny Barbaracle will make their debut
  • Lapras wearing a scarf will be available for the first time
    • Its shiny will also be available
  • Dewpider and Araquanid, Bug/Water-types from Alola, will make their debut
  • Hatching eggs will yield double candy and increased Candy XL
  • Rainy Lure Modules will last for two hours
  • A Water Festival Scarf avatar item will be available in the in-game shop, as well as after the event ends

Water-type Pokemon will be spawning in the wild, including Dewpider. Here's a full list:

Pokemon GO Water Festival Raids

Lapras with a scarf will not be available in the wild, but it will be available in Raids! Additionally, Tapu Fini is now in Pokemon GO and will be headlining Legendary Raids during the Water Festival.

The following Pokemon can hatch during 7km eggs obtained during the event:

  • Mudkip
  • Feebas
  • Binacle
  • Staryu
  • Clamperl

Pokemon GO Water Festival Research And Global Challenge

There will be a whole host of challenges during the Water Festival. Field Research tasks will be available, there will be a Timed Research challenge, and there will be a Global Challenge in effect. Additionally, the Poni Island Special Research is now available. 

Field Research Tasks

We don't know yet what the tasks will be in the event-exclusive Field Research task list, but we do know the potential rewards. 

Event-exclusive Field Research can lead to encounters with the following Pokemon: 

  • Magikarp
  • Carvanha
  • Wailmer
  • Luvdisc
  • Binacle
  • Dewpider
  • Costumed Lapras
  • Marill

Additionally, Gyarados Mega Energy and Blastoise Mega Energy will be rewards for some tasks. 

Timed Research

Again, we don't know the tasks for the Timed Research, but Niantic has revealed some of the rewards. 

By completing the Timed Research questline, you'll earn 1,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust, 50 Gyarados Mega Energy, and encounters with costumed Lapras and Dewpider. 

Global Challenge

Finally, head to the Today page to see a Global Challenge. Trainers around the world need to work together to catch 600 million Water-type Pokemon. 

This challenge is only active from May 11 at 1pm PDT to May 21 at 1am PDT.

If this goal is met, double catch candy will be implemented for everyone.
