No, we’re not talking about the Cage the Elephant song - No Rest for the Wicked is the latest game from Moon Studio, and it’s releasing into early access on April 18. The developer of Ori and the Blind Forest is taking a wild left turn with the genre of its new title, delivering a gorgeous-looking ARPG from a top-down perspective and a fairly punishing combat system.

There’s a long development plan ahead of this game, with multiplayer coming down the road. However, if you want to get in on the action right from day one, you can do so very soon. Below, I’ve listed exactly when you can start playing No Rest for the Wicked depending on your time zone.

No Rest for the Wicked release time in all time zones

Time Zone Release Time
CT 11 PM
JST 1 AM (April 19)

As you can see, No Rest for the Wicked is launching simultaneously across all time zones, so every country will gain access at the same time. If you’re looking to pull a New Zealand trick on this one, you’ll sadly just need to be patient!

Should you purchase No Rest for the Wicked early access?

While it’s entirely up to you whether you purchase the early access version of No Rest for the Wicked, there’s a reasonable case for doing so.

First off, there’s a small discount on the game’s price if you jump in early. If you purchase the game within its first two weeks of launch, then you can cop it for 10% less at $36/£29. This incentive will disappear on May 2, when the price will return to $40/£32.

That’s arguably quite a steep price for an early access game, so saving those extra pennies might take some of the sting out of it.

There’s an early access bonus of the Cerim Armour, which you can equip in-game to make your character look like a dark and mysterious wizard-type. However, this is awarded to anyone who purchases the game in early access - not just the first two weeks.

It’s worth keeping in mind that the early access version of No Rest for the Wicked will only include the first chapter of the game’s story and a smattering of important mechanics, such as upgradable gear, dungeons, and rotating weekly challenges. There’s a lot that’s left to be added here, so you’re buying into something that’s going to be updated quite regularly with new content.

It’s always a risk picking up a game in early access, as there’s never a guarantee that it will be supported through to a 1.0 release. That said, given Moon Studio’s excellent track record with the Ori games, it’s a safe bet that No Rest for the Wicked has a trustworthy team at the helm.

Is the game coming to other platforms?

While No Rest for the Wicked is coming to PC via Steam in early access, it’s not coming to consoles until a much later date.

A PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version has been slated in the development plan, but the team hasn’t yet provided anything specific. If I were to speculate, I’d imagine that this will likely be when the game reaches its 1.0 release milestone.

This is because Sony and Microsoft must review every update that developers issue for a game, and when that game is in early access, there are a lot of updates. Ultimately, this makes it harder to make quick changes, which isn’t ideal for this early testing period.

Moon Studios has confirmed that the game won’t be coming to the Xbox One, PS4, or Nintendo Switch.
