NBA 2K24 release date, cover star, editions, platforms & more

Another year means another NBA game from 2K with NBA 2K24 arriving very soon - just in time for the new Regular Season to begin. The first NBA 2K game was released in 1999 with Allen Iverson on the front. Since then we have had annual releases, alongside some other spin-off games like Playgrounds.
This year's game looks to iterate on everything we have seen before, whilst bringing in some new features and the regular team updates we have come to expect from these games. The biggest of these new features will be ProPlay, a new technology offering unique animations, taken from real games, on the current-gen versions of the game.
With that said, let’s take to the court and see everything we know so far about NBA 2K24.

What is the NBA 2K24 release date?

NBA 2K24 will release on September 8, 2023, so we won’t have to wait long before we can take it to the court once again.
NBA 2K always releases in September, so it was no surprise to learn that this tradition will continue. At the time of writing, there is no early access that you can take advantage of, so we will all be crowded in the paint trying to play in early September.

Who is the NBA 2K24 cover star?

The NBA 2K24 cover will once again star the late Kobe Bryant. His career spanned 20 years when he famously wore the number 8 and the number 24 for the Los Angeles Lakers. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest to ever play the sport and that’s why this will be the fourth time the shooting guard will appear on the cover.
There will be four editions of the game in total, and each edition features a different cover. Kobe Bryant appears on two editions of the game, whilst the WNBA Edition will feature Sabrina Ionescu who plays for New York Liberty. This edition will only be available at GameStop in the US and Canada.

If you're just looking for some pure basketball gameplay, then the official gameplay trailer is where you need to direct your attention. It does exactly what it says on the tin and shows off the court in stunning fashion, so make sure to give it a watch if you want to get hyped. We also get a good look here at the new ProPlay technology being introduced.
The most recent trailer that has been revealed for NBA 2K24 is the 'Mamba Moments' trailer, which of course relates to Kobe Bryant - who had the moniker of Black Mamba. This trailer shows off the new mode that lets you relive some of the greatest moments of his career, the dream of any Kobe fan.
The next trailer was a proper look at what we can expect from MyTeam this year. MyTeam is a team building game mode where you earn players from the past and the present, build your squad and take them online to face off against other opponents.
