In general, the basics of taming involve rendering the creature unconscious, filling their inventory with the food items used for taming, and then keeping it unconscious to carry on the taming process. The first step can be difficult for Pteranodons as they can fly though, and approaching and attacking them directly will often cause them to fly away.

The best way of taming a Pteranodon is knocking it out from a distance with Bolas. Wait for one to land on the ground, or find one already on the surface, and throw your Bolas to incapacitate it. Another way that works, is by sneaking up toward a Pteranodon with an Electric Prod and landing a headshot. Lastly, ranged weapons like tranq arrows or stone arrows also work, but be careful not to let one land in deep water or it can drown.

Once you have captured a Pteranodon, you will need to feed it Regular Kibble, which can be made with a Medium Egg, Longrass x2, Savoroot x2, Cooked Meat Jerky, Fiber x5, and a source of water. Fill its inventory with as many of these as you can until the taming bar reaches max.

You'll also need to monitor whether it wakes up, and feed it Narcoberries or Narcotics to keep it asleep during the taming process. Creatures won't eat these automatically, so make sure to force-feed it to them in their inventory when you need to keep them docile.

That's all for our breakdown of how to tame a Pteranodon in ARK Survival Evolved, and now you know the full process of turning one into a pet.
