Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 release date & what to expect

Fortnite's constant presence as one of the biggest games in the world and an enduring cultural icon is set to continue with the start of Chapter 5 Season 3 very soon, but when can you expect to play it?

The game has revolutionised free-to-play gaming and just how far you can push content updates while keeping the core of the game the same. Lots of this comes through seasonal updates and big crossover events, which we expect to be the case again for the upcoming season.

When does Chapter 5 Season 3 release?

Based on the end date of Chapter 5 Season 2, we can estimate Chapter 5 Season 3 to release on May 24.

All previous seasons have begun just as the other ended, with a big update typically marking the release and introducing all the new content. 

The downtime from this means it's hard to say exactly when on the 24th that you can begin playing, but I'd book that day off you're excited.

What do we know about Chapter 5 Season 3?

There isn't much in the way of officially confirmed details for the next season of Fortnite, but a teaser trailer that was released on May 19 and the usual pre-chapter leaks do give us a clue what to expect.

Firstly, the teaser trailer makes it clear that we can expect a Mad Max theme. It begins by showing us a big sand storm rolling into the island, and we also see a number of cars and bikes at the end that seem to launch off a ship.

Fortnite leaker Shiina also revealed the tagline for this season, which seems to back up the Mad Max idea: "Our brand-new Fortnite Battle Royale season pulls you into a contested wasteland and lets you live out your ultimate, nitro-fuelled vehicular mayhem dream!"

Shiina went on to reveal a new build-up boat set to launch with the chapter, which is set to be larger than the yacht and could even be a new temporary POI. The image that Shiina posted also resembles the mouth opening that a character is pushed through during the teaser trailer.

In terms of what's actually confirmed, we do know that to expect a Fallout crossover at some point during Chapter 5 Season 3, though this could be sometime after the initial launch.
