The Elden Ring Sir Gideon Ofnir boss fight may catch some players off guard. That is because for most of the Elden Ring story, Sir Gideon presents himself as a master scholar, offering advice to the Tarnished on the location and nature of the demi-gods and their Great Runes in the Lands Between. Although Sir Gideon mentions his aspirations to unite the Elden Ring, he loses his faith along the way and tries to prevent the Tarnished from ascending toward the Elden Throne towards the end of the game. Sir Gideon is the leader of the Tarnished at the Roundtable Hold, known with the title of ‘The All-Knowing’ he tasks the player with recovering knowledge regarding the lost Great Runes of the Demigods. He expresses his desire to reunite the Elden Ring, his task eventually becoming obsessive to the point where he disowns his adopted daughter, Nepheli Loux.
During his power-thirsty quest for knowledge it is said that he glimpses an insight into Marika’s mind, as such he loses his faith in the two fingers and tries to stop the player from succeeding to the Elden Throne. During your playthrough you’ll be able to find Sir Gideon in his office in the Roundtable Hold, surrounded by scrolls and papers. Once you’ve progressed the main story to the point where Leyndell is the Capital of Ash, Sir Gideon Ofnir will block your way to the Elden Throne room, located at the Erdtree Sanctuary building. He is not an optional boss, so you’ll have to beat him to progress the story.

Sir Gideon Ofnir isn’t the biggest challenge you’ll face in this area, but he does have the dreaded animation that we all hate – he can heal himself with a Crimson Flask. He only has one flask but despite this, he will still perform the animation of taking the flask during the fight which will leave him open for a few seconds to attack him aggressively. In terms of attacks, he has a combination depending on which bosses you’ve fought during your game (which correlates to which knowledge he has on the bosses’ powers). As a spellcaster he has access to the following incantations: Knowledge Above All, Comet, Carian Phalanx, Triple Rings Of Light, Law of Casualty, Rykard’s Rancor, Comet Azur, Black Flame Ritual, Bloodboon and Scarlet Aeonia. But, as previously stated, these depend on if you’ve beating the bosses who previously owned these powers.
This is nothing to sniff at, Scarlet Aeonia in particular can cause quick build-up of scarlet rot which can be devastating. Comet Azure summons an actual comet that hurtles damage in a consistent blast ray. However, being a spellcaster leaves him open attacks during his long casting times so the best option is to go into this boss fight aggressively and chain him with quick attacks.
If this is done, he can be both staggered and backstabbed, but he cannot be poise broken. Spirit Ash summons are available as always to help you split his attention if you need it. He also first speaks to the Tarnished for a few lines, once again opening him up to attacks if you’re not too fussed cutting his speech short for a few cheap shots.

If you manage to beat him, Sir Gideon Ofnir drops a substantial 150,000 runes and his armour set which is appropriately named the ‘All-Knowing’ armour set.
