Get ready to blast Herald of Darkness by Old Gods of Asgard, because Alan Wake is coming to Dead by Daylight, and we’re here to bring you his release date, lore and the brand-new Survivor Perks that will be coming with him.

After the likes of Nicolas Cage and Chucky entered The Fog, it’s no surprise that Behaviour Interactive is introducing yet another horror icon into the game - and given he was in one of the biggest games of the year in 2023, now is the perfect time.

When is Alan Wake coming to Dead by Daylight?

Alan Wake will be coming to Dead by Daylight on January 30, 2024. This will coincide with the regular midchapter update that is currently being tested on the Public Test Build (PTB) of the DbD.

What are Alan Wake’s Perks in Dead by Daylight?

As with all new characters in DbD, Alan Wake has three unique Perks that, after upgrading with plenty of Bloodpoints, can be taught to all the other Survivors in the game. This includes a brand new Boon Perk, which you can see him using below:

Description

Boon: Illumination

Press and hold the Active Ability Button 1 near a Dull or Hex Totem to bless it and create a Boon Totem. Survivors inside your Boon Totem’s range see the aura of all chests and Generators in blue. If you have lit a Boon Totem, you cleanse or bless Totems up to 10% faster.

Champion of Light

While you are holding a flashlight, this Perk activate. When you are shining a flashlight, you have 50% Haste. When you successfully blind the Killer, they also gain 20% Hindered for 6 seconds. This effect cannot stack with itself. Then, this Perk goes into cooldown for up to 60 seconds.

Deadline

This Perk activates when you are injured. Skill Checks appear up to 10% more frequently when repairing or healing and appear in random places. The penalty for missing skills checks is reduced by 50%.

Who is Alan Wake in Dead by Daylight?

A writer with a seriously malevolent block, Alan Wake’s writer’s retreat to Bright Falls in 2010 took a turn when, after a series of unfortunate events, he was trapped in the Dark Place, with the ability to alter reality with his writing and fight off dark forces with his trusty flashlight.

After a 13-year hiatus, Alan Wake 2 was released to critical acclaim and saw the legendary writer return, as he wrote and warped reality to escape the captivity in the darkness.

Now, Alan Wake has swapped the Dark Place for the Realm of The Entity as he enters The Fog as a new Survivor, with an assortment of Perk complementing the mechanics within his games.

In a press release on bringing Alan Wake into DbD, Sam Lake, Creative Director of Remedy Entertainment has said: “From our early excited conversations about our collaboration with Behaviour Interactive, it was clear that the lore of both games were surprisingly compatible, drawing from many similar inspirations, a true match in… hell. With Alan Wake 2 now out, the time is right for another nightmare to begin.”

With the likeness of Ilkka Villi and the voice of Matthew Porretta, Alan Wake continues writing from the Writer’s Room in the Dark Place as The Entity’s grip takes hold and draws him into a brand-new, perhaps even more disturbing, world.
