How to switch between Saga and Alan in Alan Wake 2
You will have noticed that Alan Wake 2 has two branching paths between two characters: the titular Alan Wake, and FBI Agent Saga Anderson, but we’re here to show you how you can switch between and play as both of them.
There is an assortment of unique characters in Alan Wake 2, from the nightmarish Nightingale to the stranger-than-fiction Alex Casey, played by Sam Lake. But switching between Alan and Sage in the game is going to help you progress the narrative.

How can you switch between Saga and Alan in Alan Wake 2?
Click to enlargeTo switch between Saga and Alan in Alan Wake 2, you’ll have to find a Janitor’s Break Room. While your standard Break Rooms allow you to manually save, the Janitor’s Break Room (indicated as such by the wet floor sign) allows you to chop and change which world you’re in.
To swap between Saga and Alan, you’ll need to interact with the puddle of darkness in the Janitor’s Break Room. After an eerie montage, you’ll be playing as your alternative character, and free to roam around and continue with the story.
When can you switch between Saga and Alan in Alan Wake 2?
Click to enlargeYou can start swapping between Alan Wake and Saga Anderson following the first Alan Wake section of the game. For the first few chapters you’ll be playing as Saga in the Pacific Northwest, but as the game progresses, you’ll eventually find yourself as Alan in The Dark Place.
Once you have completed this section and you're back to playing as Saga, you simply need to profile Alan a little and you'll be able to switch between them.
