'Weapon Mod Slots' Could Be Coming To Fortnite

Just when it seemed like Fortnite could no longer surprise us, leaker HYPEX has revealed that developer Epic Games have been testing something called "Weapon Mod Slots".

The rumoured new weapon mechanic would add abilities and attachments to the guns already found in the game, becoming more of a loadout system akin to Warzone or Apex Legends, where items like barrel stabilisers and scopes are found on the ground or created/crafted, and attached to guns. These attachments upgrade the gun, making it easier to use, more powerful, or increase the clip size.

In previous seasons, players could upgrade the rarity of their guns at Upgrade Benches, and in the current season, players can get their weapons upgraded by NPCs who hang around at named locations and landmarks, using gold bars.

It seems this new system could utilise Upgrade Benches yet again, adding new perks or attachments such as laser sights, silencers, or elemental damage (such as fire or ice) just like in the main campaign game - Fortnite: Save The World.

But would this eradicate weapon rarities? It would be a huge overhaul to the current loadout system, but not out of the realms of possibility that Fortnite could introduce craftable or lootable attachments, that raise the status of the weapon in question. In Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment's Battle Royale offering, attachments themselves work under a rarity system, and Fortnite could be taking a page out of their book.

As of right now, there are no further details on the specifics of this system, or when/if it will enter the game.
