Love them or hate them, the crossover between Call of Duty battle royale and Zombies added an element that's never been seen before when they mixed the two in Blackout last year.

Heading into Modern Warfare and Warzone, the one Call of Duty element that hasn't been touched is zombies - until now.

Dataminers have found a Warzone Zombie Royale mode in the files of Modern Warfare, following the Season 5 Reloaded update which went live on August 25.

Prominent Call of Duty leaks and datamine account 'ModernWarzone' has revealed the following description can be found in the files:

Zombie Royale: Be the last team with a human alive to win. Players turn into Zombies on death, but can become human again by consuming fallen player's hearts.

It's been well-documented that Warzone will "evolve" into the next title. With Activision working closely alongside both game developers (Infinity Ward and Treyarch) to make a crossover possible, this further backs up the theory that Treyarch's zombies could be incorporated into Warzone.

Recently, we've seen classic weapons from the Black Ops Series make their way into Verdansk, with the CR-56 AMAX (a.k.a. the Galil) and the AN-94 assault rifles adding a new slaying dynamic, despite being prominent in Treyarch's series rather than Infinity Ward's.

Sergeant Frank Woods is also rumoured to make a cameo in Warzone, being another crossover from Black Ops to Modern Warfare. Woods has also been leaked as part of the first Operator Bundle for Black Ops Cold War. In addition to this leak, dataminers have often seen the nutcase of a Sergeant appear in the game files, hinting at him dropping into the AO before Black Ops and generate hype behind the next instalment.

The Warzone Zombies Royale mode sounds like it will be very much like "Infected", where your ill turn undead after being eliminated from the battle royale. The twist is that you'll be able to return to human form if you consume an enemy. The game mode is set to land as a limited-time mode.
