Midnight Suns has been out for a hot minute now, and though it isn't exactly one of the absolute front-runners for Marvel's foray into video games, it has managed to prove that it doesn't have to be.

The game is pretty different to the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy with a fascinating new tone and entirely new gameplay style, but that's only made it stand out all the more to players who have picked the title up. It's still going strong with a good playerbase, too, indicating that upcoming DLC could yet be met with thunderous applause.

And yet, there's trouble brewing for those that want to get involved from the last generation. But also, there's no trouble at all. Let us explain.

Marvel's Midnight Suns gets last-gen port udpdates

It looks like Marvel's Midnight Suns is finally ready to return to last-gen consoles - for all but one of them.

We thankfully have a brand new release date for last-gen ports of the game, as well as brand new DLC that features Storm from X-Men. The game will be launching on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on May 11, which is fantastic news for players still in the last-gen on these consoles. But there's worse news for those whose primary console is the Nintendo Switch.

The blog post that has revealed the news also tacks onto the end, in the quietest way that the developers can, "Note that a Nintendo Switch version of Marvel's Midnight Suns is no longer planned." Eh?

Why has Marvel's Midnight Suns on Switch been canned?

As of right now, we have nothing to go off when it comes to figuring out why the game won't be coming to Switch. It's understandable that development for the console is likely to be drastically different to development for Xbox or PlayStation consoles - but it's still a massively disappointing revelation for Switch users, especially as it has been offered as an update in such a non-chalant fashion.

It's sad to see that the game won't be coming to Nintendo fans, but it's just a reality we'll have to accept without any reasoning. Sob.
