Much like on the silver screen, horror is in something of a video game renaissance these days. We're no longer restricted to Leon S. Kennedy skulking around the bowels of the Raccoon City Police Department. With everything from Dead by Daylight to Little Nightmares IIThe Medium to Returnal, 2021 was packed with great titles. 2022 is no different.

It's not that there isn't a place for Resident Evil in today's horror scene, and in fact, Resident Evil Village is thought by many to be 2021's best horror game. Still, that hasn't stopped Supermassive carving a name for itself with The Dark Pictures Anthology. The demonic developer's latest venture is a separate entity that gathers a who's who of horror hounds for The Quarry

What Is The Quarry?

Much like Supermassive's Until DawnThe Quarry follows a group of attractive teens who are ready to be picked off one by one. That's where the similarities end though. While Until Dawn's doomed crop of kids were ripped to pieces by wendigos, The Quarry's trailer keeps its assailants largely in the shadows. We get name drops for hunters, zombies, aliens, time-hopping Draculas, and even bears.

The story focuses on nine camp counsellors, who have to spend an extra night at Camp Hackett after it's closed down for the winter. As the teens throw one last party to celebrate, we're warned they will be "hunted by blood-drenched locals and something far more sinister." You get a chance to play as each of the nine counsellors, and like Until Dawn, each decision you make will affect the endgame.

If playing with friends, you can also take part in the story with your own decisions or join together to vote as a group. Everyone could live, everyone could die, or we could even find a new final girl/guy. Either way, it's a long-awaited spiritual successor to Until Dawn that's sure to see the rud stuff flow. If you want, you can simply watch Movie Mode and see the horror play out on its own.

Who Is In The Quarry?

If the premise alone wasn't enough to get you to part with your cash, The Quarry has a who's who of famous faces from the world of horror. As well as Scream's David Arquette (alongside his likeness), we've got A Nightmare on Elm Street and Insidious' Lin Shaye, and Aliens' Lance Henriksen. Each of these legends is easily recognisable, but they play second fiddle to the young cast.

Providing vocals for the younger characters, we've got Detective Pikachu's Justice Smith, Modern Family's Ariel Winter, and Dollface's Brenda Song. We can't wait to see more, and with The Quarry out on June 10 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, it's one to keep an eye on.
