Borderlands seems to have taken a backseat, in order to let… Borderlands… sit in the front. The main franchise has taken something of a break since Borderlands 3, with no word on a new mainline instalment in the meantime. Still, that doesn't mean fans of the franchise are left without.

The new Borderlands movie starring the likes of Jack Black and Jamie Lee Curtis is fast approaching - threatening to bring the franchise into the living rooms of non-video game fans across the world. In terms of games, we're not at a detriment either thanks to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands bringing its D&D-inspired hijinks to superfans everywhere.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Outperformed Expectations

Although Tiny Tina's Wonderlands hasn't been out for very long, it looks like more of Tiny Tina could be on the way soon. For a spin-off, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has absolutely smashed it in terms of finances and paved the way for her future.

The game outperformed its expectations, and according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, it could become a franchise all by itself. In the latest financials from Take-Two, Zelnick said that it's "viewed as the best new franchise launch from 2K in several years," and added that "over 40% of Wonderlands players had never played a Borderlands game before."

This is a surprising statistic, given how intrinsically linked Tiny Tina herself is to Borderlands as a series, despite its fantastical adjustments - but this means that Tina might be able to step away and forge her own identity.

Does This Mean We're Getting A Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Sequel?

Though there's nothing announced or directly referenced in this statement, it does look as though Take-Two and Gearbox could be thinking about more Tiny Tina's Wonderlands content following its current DLC roadmap. After all, with the film coming out and a sequel to Tales from the Borderlands on the way, it's probably not a bad idea to keep the Wonderlands afloat.

It's surprising how well Tiny Tina has done for Take-Two's financial gains, but if it works, it works. Even though Tiny Tina's Wonderlands might not seem like much from the outside, it still has a lively fanbase and has impressed board members. A Tiny Tina's Wonderlands sequel could be on the way - but let's hope that we get Borderlands 4 first.
