Indie games love to delve into the bizarre. As there are so many indie titles out and about on the internet, there are a lot of ways that developers can interpret their niche interests and translate them into gameplay.

We only have to look as far as Mount Your Friends and Getting Over It to see that developers love taking their bizarre concepts and running with them. Although they sometimes remain in their niches, others break through to the mainstream... much like Goat Simulator. And now, a new game has reared its head and does exactly what it says on the tin.

What Is Squirrel With A Gun?

A brand-new game is sweeping Twitter at the moment, and for good reason. It's a game called Squirrel with a Gun, and in it, you play as a Squirrel with a gun. Mad, we know.

The game seems to have started as a joke for Twitter, but now, with a fresh Steam Page and new trailer, it's all anyone is talking about right now, as it could end up reaching the big leagues.

Squirrel with a Gun isn't just an exercise in seeing what a realistic squirrel would do with a handgun - rather, it's grabbed the concept and turned it into something altogether much bolder. Developer Daniel DeEntremont has given players the chance to use it for extra elevation when shot at the floor, making for some bonus platforming possibilities.

Speaking with GGRecon, the solo developer behind the game, Dan DeEntremont, revealed the inspiration behind the seemingly wild concept. "A squirrel holding a regular-sized gun has been an idea in my head for a while," says DeEntremont. "I'm not sure where it came from, but people on Twitter have sent me these stand-up clips," referring to stand-up bits from Katt Williams and Eddie Izzard that follow the same concept.

"Now I KNOW I've watched Katt Williams and Eddie Izzard stand-up before. Perhaps they planted a subconscious seed in my head." He goes on to tell us his hopes for the final version of Squirrel with a Gun - making for a fun concept.  "As for the game itself," continued DeEntremont, "I hope the finished product will be a healthy balance of platforming and shooting." No matter how Squirrel with a Gun turns out, the furry favourite is an incredible amount of fun, and we can't wait to get our paws on it.
