Get oot ma swamp. If there's one thing we've learned over the years, it's that much like parfait, everybody loves a Shrek movie (well, the first few anyway). Long before DreamWorks was flogging a dead donkey by churning out Shrek movies and spin-offs like seasons of The Simpsons, the Mike Myers-led franchise was a family favourite that balanced that fine line between movies kids can enjoy and jokes only adults will get. How long did it take you to figure out the real meaning behind Lord Farquaad's name?

Even though the Shrek name has been tarnished by the likes of Shrek Forever After, there's a planned fifth film/potential reboot, and yes, another Puss in Boots movie. The world of Shrek is no stranger to crossing over into video games, with the green meanie appearing in various tie-in games to promote the movies, and questions about whether he could ever appear in Square Enix's long-running Kingdom Hearts series. Now, someone has taken a leaf out of Kingdom's book and recreated their own Shrek World inside Dreams

What does Shrek World in Dreams look like?

Shared on Reddit u/ lions_in_09 showed off Kingdom Hearts' Sora happily exploring Duloc - the fantasy realm Lord Farquaad ruled over in the original Shrek. Here, Donald Duck has been swapped out for Shrek to make up Sora's party alongside Goofy. Each Kingdom Hearts character has their own unique abilities to help Sora in combat, but with the post just being a screenshot, we don't get to see Shrek in battle. Could he have some sort of farting ability like the 2001 Xbox Shrek game did? We'd like to think taste in video games has come on a little bit from that kind of toilet humour.

Unlike other Dream builds, we also don't get to see more of Duloc. Only recently, a Simpsons Hit & Run build looked like a next-gen remaster of the 2003 adventure game. Still, the Reddit post caused a stir among fandom and led to suggestions of which other non-Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix properties we'd like to see in Kingdom Hearts. Alongside the fan-favourite Shrek, others suggested levels based on Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon. Shrek arguably has the most scope - just think of a daring rescue of Princess Fiona from her tower of imprisonment.

Could the Dreams Shrek Word be added to Kingdom Hearts?

A Dreams build is all well and good, but what about actually adding Shrek to Kingdom Hearts. For as long as we can remember, there have been memes championing that odorous ogre for a role in Kingdom Hearts. Unfortunately, the rights issues would be a minefield. We're used to seeing the Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. gang in Kingdom Hearts, but that's because Pixar falls under the Disney umbrella. At the moment, there are no plans for another Kingdom Hearts game, however, it's easy to imagine Shrek fitting in with Sora, Mickey, and all the rest.

Of course, the upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts on PC via Epic Games will open the door to modding. While we were previously trapped with console versions, meaning we were limited to Square Enix's imagination, the modding community is sure to go wild with adding Shrek to Kingdom Hearts on PC. Even if the Dreams build looks like it could be impressive, it'll be nothing to actually seeing Shrek (unofficially) in Kingdom Hearts. It's sure to be an onion-munching, belching, wind-passing roller coaster.
