Word that PlayStation was going to step back into the world of handhelds was a pretty big deal. Despite its commercial failures, the PSP and PS Vita lines of consoles were actually pretty brilliant in their own way.

Bringing pretty un-Nintendo games like Medal of Honour, Tekken, and Grand Theft Auto to the handheld world was secret genius - maybe it was just ahead of its time. Now, Sony is heading back into the handheld world. Albeit in a pretty divisive way.

PlayStation's Project Q in action has been leaked

Project Q is the latest foray into handheld gaming from Sony, aiming to be a console that latches onto a player's PS5 and allows them to play their games anywhere via the cloud.

The concept alone has been subject to plenty of bullying from fans - but now that some footage of the console in action has supposedly been leaked, gamers are truly roasting it. According to the Twitter account Zuby_Tech, Project Q's build and main menu have been leaked in a new video, and it's… certainly something.

Critics have been clowning on the design from promo images alone, but the video really illuminates how long the machine is. It looks simply like a PS5 controller with a screen smashed into the middle. It's deeply bizarre, meaning fans have wasted no time in giving it what for.

Fans have taken to the replies of the tweet to give the console hell, ripping its appearance to shreds. One joked, "It better work well because it’s ugly as hell," while another added, "Looks like a 50 dollar android tablet with a custom rom. Gross."

A third chuckled, "Since when has Sony not disappointed basically everyone. They can’t go a decade without p*ssing 90% of the userbase off." A fourth concluded, "They should’ve just made a PSP instead." For once, we actually find ourselves agreeing.

We wouldn't usually condone bullying based on appearance, but to be fair, the console does look pretty goofy. Clearly, the mistakes of the gaming giant's handheld past haven't been learned. God bless PlayStation for trying, though.
