It's quite easy to fall into a sense of comfortability in Overwatch 2 with your hero selection, especially if you're a newer player.
With so much going on visibly in Blizzard's hero shooter, getting on one hero and riding with them at all costs is quite an easy road to go down.
But, this means that you're likely missing out on some of the best heroes in the game, and despite some more-established players ditching characters after recent nerfs, the pro players' picks have shown you're doing it all wrong.
OWL Hero picks show that you're playing the wrong characters
Statistics provided by Overwatch 2 content creator "Samito" have shown that a range of heroes are being completely slept on in your day-to-day games, as the OWL professionals have been using a range of unpopular characters in their official matches.
The streamer showcased the official pick rates in the OWL season so far, proving characters such as Brigitte and Winston have been dominant.
Of course, the meta impacts this too, as the OWL sides were operating in a dive meta. Still, the stats show that you might need to make a shift in your approach in your competitive games.
Overwatch pros are showing your favourite characters aren't that good
According to Overbuff, the most popular support characters in the last 30 days are Ana (8.14% pick rate) and Mercy (6.94%), yet while Ana does top the charts for Supports in the OWL, Mercy was rock-bottom, while Brigitte has been catapulted to the top despite her ability overhaul.
The same goes for the Tank heroes too, as Overbuff points out that Reinhardt (4.02%) is a clear favourite in this role and Winston sits at a measly eighth place in the most-picked department. However, in the Overwatch League, Winston was by far the most-used hero, being played over 50% of the time.
The dive comp might be one of the harder metas to master with random players, but it goes to show that there are many more ways to get results in Overwatch 2 if you get out of your comfort zone, especially those Mercy fans...
