As Overwatch 2 Season 4 rolls out with some huge updates to the preexisting hero pool and bringing Lifeweaver through into the fold, fans have been hard at work getting to grips with the new content.

But in the midst of the chaos, it seems like Activision Blizzard has pulled one of the most-loved game modes out of rotation - leaving a slew of angry fans in its wake.

Overwatch 2 devs remove Mystery Heroes Competitive playlist without warning

Overwatch differs from most games with its game modes, with the likes of Escort, Push, and Hybrid being substantially different to modes typically seen in shooter games before.

However, Mystery Heroes was added in Season 3 and quickly became a popular game mode for players. It was especially a hit with those looking to learn more characters and those who love a bit of randomness in their lives.

So, it came as quite a disappointment to fans as they loaded into Season 4 to find that Mystery Heroes was not available anymore.

Having been brought in as a seasonal LTM, many players found themselves unaware when the game mode was pulled, while others expected it to be extended because of its popularity.

Taking to Reddit, one fan said, "For me, it's been the only interesting mode because counter-picking was actually not a factor, and the rng added a fun element to the game."

The majority of players felt like a reminder - or at least some notice that the mode was being pulled - would have been appreciated, but the fact it was "poof" and gone has been quite a gripe.

"Why was there no warning anywhere? It's such a good comp mode, it was basically the only thing I was playing! This definitely needs to be reconsidered. The game isn't losing anything by having it permanently available," added another fan.

With hope, the LTM might be added back in a future season as others have in the past. Maybe an Apex Legends-like party game rotation system might be just what Overwatch 2 players need to stay retained.
