Outriders Is Giving Players Free Legendaries Due To Server Issues

Outriders might only be a week old, but that hasn't stopped Square Enix's Destiny and The Division hybrid from being plagued by problems. While we're not quite at Cyberpunk 2077 levels of disastrous launches, Outriders has been struck by struggling servers since its launch on April 1 - sadly, it wasn't an April Fool's Day prank. As complaints about not even being able to get into matches continue, developers are saying sorry to outraged Outriders fans by giving out free Legendaries.

If you're new to Outriders, the third-person shooter throws you into a dystopian future where Earth has been ravaged by climate change and the survivors of the human race have blasted off to the planet of Enoch. Playing with up to two others, you head out onto the planet's hostile surface and follow a mysterious signal. Battling against other colonists, alien lifeforms, and mutated humans known as the "Altered", you level up your classes and scoop the loot to watch your titular Outrider grow.

How do you get free Legendaries in Outriders?

Posting on Reddit, a spokesperson from Square Enix explained how the "appreciation package" will give players a free gun, an emote and some Titanium. "Throughout all of this we really appreciated all your messages of support and encouragement and they helped us power through and improve the situation", said the representative. "We would like to thank each and every one of you. Beyond just saying it, however, we would like to confirm that we are working on a small 'appreciation package' for our launch window players".

If you play Outriders between March 31 and April 11 (this Sunday), you'll be awarded a "level-appropriate" Legendary weapon and Titanium bundle. The emote is ironically named Frustration, which takes on a double meaning as it doesn't currently work. The devs added, "The irony here was not intentional but is fitting". Developer People Can Fly promised it is "still working through the exact details", meaning the appreciation package could change slightly before its release. There's also no release on when you'll be able to claim your rewards, but we're expecting more information soon.

Are the Outriders servers fixed?

The key takeaway here is that the free Outriders Legendaries you'll unlock depends what level you're presumably at on April 11. We'd suggest that whether you consider yourself an expert or a complete newbie, you'd better start grinding away over the weekend. Finally, Square Enix confirmed that those unlucky few who were affected by the inventory wipe glitch will also get an apology package to make up for losing their loot.

It isn't every day a developer gives you a freebie to say sorry. On the whole, things are going pretty well for Outriders. After those launch issues, the game hit a massive concurrent player count of 125,000 and is looking strong. With Outriders boasting the biggest Steam launch ever for a Square Enix game, it sounds like it has the right balance of story and gameplay. Despite this balloon to start, it will be interesting to see how devs keep us invested and what updates are on offer. Either way, giving out free Legendaries to unimpressed players is one way to keep them on your side when things inevitably get rough.
