Coming into Modern Warfare 3, a lot of fans have predicted that this may be the last we hear of one major character in Task Force 141, just as we saw the old MW3 do away with characters near and dear to our hearts.

But most of the predictions and teasers so far have pointed in the direction of Captain Price being the unfortunate demise, allowing Ghost to pick up the pieces, become the TF141 leader, and open the franchise up to a Ghost-centric storyline going forward.

One new piece of teaser material might have just set us up for a different character's death though, and it would be a gut-wrencher.

Call of Duty eludes to Soap dying in Modern Warfare 3

With The Haunting event set to begin this week, one trailer has now launched showing the Modern Warfare 2 map El Asilo being spooked up in a typically Mexican celebration of the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

However, the trailer depicts both Alejandro and Valeria skirting on opposite sides of heaven and hell, and claims that one person's "time on the altar will be soon".

Valeria speaks of honouring the fallen soldiers with "sugar skulls" which have been placed on a shrine, and one of these is inscribed with the name "Soap".

Will Soap die (again) in Modern Warfare 3?

I can still remember the first time that we saw Captain Price giving Soap CPR on the table in Chernobyl all those years ago as the original trilogy capped off the loyal veteran's life. The pain is still real and we're not ready to see it again.

But we might have no choice.

The Halloween trailer clearly hints at Soap meeting his maker again in this rebooted series, which would be quite ironic given that he will be the main character in killing the dead this year in Zombies.

Fans also noticed that Valeria's main quarrel will be with Soap, rather than Alejandro, given that he was the one who hoodwinked the simp-able antagonist.

Others did cross-examine the teaser and came up with a different theory though. These more half-full fans claimed that a "Day of the Dead" skin might be on the cards for Soap instead, given that he already has a popular namesake outfit in CoD Mobile.

There surely can't be more resurrected characters coming to Modern Warfare though, so if anyone, Price or Soap does "die" in the upcoming trilogy title, it might be that they are put to rest for good.
