Killstreaks are one of the most iconic aspects of the Call of Duty franchise, rewarding players with advanced weaponry, technology, and air support if they rack up enough eliminations in a row.

Since being introduced, Killstreaks have only been associated with multiplayer, but that's about to change in Modern Warfare 3.

The new Open Combat Missions in the MW3 campaign are going to give players the chance to complete objectives on their own terms, whether that's through stealth or going in with all guns blazing.

Within these missions, it's been confirmed by a MW3 dev that Killstreaks will be available to use for the first time ever in a CoD campaign.

Killstreaks will be available in MW3 campaign

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, MW3's Creative Director David Swenson confirmed that Killstreaks would be available in the campaign.

They will only be available to use in Open Combat Missions that are completely "player-directed," this means Operators can complete objectives however they want to.

At the moment, it's unknown whether players will have to rack up kills in Open Combat Missions to earn Killstreaks, or whether they'll be available to pick up on the ground like Warzone.

Either way, it adds a new dynamic to the campaign and will allow for more replayability in these missions. While one player might call in air support and cruise missiles to take out targets, others may prefer to jam enemy radars and move in with stealth.

Which killstreaks can you use in MW3 campaign?

For now, the full list of Killstreaks available to use in the MW3 campaign has not been revealed just yet. It's likely that this information will be unveiled at the CoD NEXT event taking place on October 5, 2023.

However, during one of the clips, we did see an Operator using a Cruise Missile in an Open Combat Mission, and it's safe to say the classic UAV will be available as well.

It'll be interesting to see whether Sledgehammer has added any new Killstreaks, or whether they're similar to those back in MW2 (2009) to match the classic maps. Either way, Killstreaks in the Modern Warfare 3 campaign is incredibly exciting and is guaranteed to make completing missions a lot more fun.
