Get ready for a royal rumble, as it looks like we're finally getting some movement on NetherRealm's Mortal Kombat 12. The brutal brawler has been sitting quietly since Mortal Kombat 11 came out in 2019, but with confirmation no more DLCs are coming to that entry, gamers are rightly questioning what comes next.

Since 1992, Mortal Kombat has pitched itself as the ultimate fighting game, and largely duked it out with Tekken to take the crown. Away from the games, Mortal Kombat has expanded into comic books, animation, live-action movies, and even a stage show. Still, the games are the franchise's bread and butter. So, where is Mortal Kombat 12?

We've heard plenty of musings about Mortal Kombat 12, with series overlord Ed Boon being the master of suspense. Now, Boon is joined by another big name in trolling us all. According to IGN, voice actor Andrew Bowen teased that he's working on something big with Warner Bros. - set within the MK world.

In a now-deleted tweet, Bowen shared a smiling shot of himself at the Warner Bros. studio lot. In case you don't know, Bowen is known for playing the shade-wearing Johnny Cage since 2015's Mortal Kombat X. It's not a guarantee that Bowen is confirming Mortal Kombat 12, and given the tease of Cage at the end of 2021's live-action Mortal Kombat movie, could Bowen be suiting up to play him in another medium?

Notably though, this is the latest in a long line of teases that Mortal Kombat 12 is further along than we thought. Earlier this year, eagle-eyed fans noticed that NetherRealm Senior Production Manager Jonathan Andersen has a file on his computer called "MK12_Mast". Something like this would be a pretty big accident, which led most to believe it was a purposeful tease.

Mortal Kombat 12 Release Date?

If you want to know the Mortal Kombat 12 release date, you might be out of luck. There were four years between 2011's reboot and MKX, while it was another four between that and MK11. If you follow the formula, we could be throwing Scorpion's kunai spear in 2023, although that seems unlikely.

Earlier this year, rumours claimed Mortal Kombat 12 will be announced at EVO 2022. If a fighting game is going to be announced, it's usually here. With EVO 2022 kicking off on August 5, we don't have long to wait. If not, it'll likely be another year until MK12 is announced and another year we're left waiting to kick the living snot out of our friends. Come on Bowen, give us the gossip.
