Let's get ready to rumble - it looks like our first real taste of Mortal Kombat 12 from NetherRealm Studios has finally been revealed. And no, we don't mean a tease of Shaggy in the next chapter or Buffy the Vampire Slayer just missing out on making the roster in the past.

Since 1992, Mortal Kombat has cemented has itself at the core of the fighting game genre and scored plenty of knockouts. From the early days of Johnny Cage being a Jean-Claude Van Damme homage through to MK11's DLC adding RoboCop, we've come a long way while still keeping the basic makeup. So, what's next?

The Twitterverse has gone into overdrive, as NetherRealm Senior Production Manager Jonathan Andersen posted a photo of his desk. On Andersen's desk, eagle-eyed fans spotted artwork from studio favourites like Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, and Injustice 2, however, others noticed a file name on the computer that's named "MK12_Mast".

If all of this wasn't enough, there's an email from a mysterious Christine that advises Andersen doesn't share a certain video because "our fans eagerly scrape the internet for any trace," adding, "Take extra care with this material." Could this mean an announcement trailer is imminent?

We always expected another MK was on the way, but this would be a strange way to announce it. Whether intentional or not, Andersen's post has since been deleted - suggesting there's more to it. Andersen's tweet was up for a grand total of 10 minutes before he tried to scrub it from existence, but thanks to Reddit, it's been immortalised.

Is Mortal Kombat 12 On The Way?

Mortal Kombat 12 looks more likely than ever thanks to confirmation there won't be another MK11 DLC (despite Ed Boon trying to troll us). Considering NetherRealm is now entrenched in Warner Bros. and its world of DC heroes and villain, many expected it would be Injustice 3 next on the studio's roster

The fact that Mortal Kombat 11 sold a whopping 12 million copies, it was only a matter of time until a twelfth main series entry was given the nod by Boon. There's also some convenient timing when you remember a second live-action Mortal Kombat movie has just been confirmed by Warner Bros. bosses. Although we're not quite there yet with MK12, we guess Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Mileena are lacing up their gloves.
