Movement is key in gun games. It's undeniable that the ability to rotate quickly and get out of a sticky situation with a jiggle and wiggle is the key to winning. So, it's no surprise that we've seen the likes of tap strafing in Apex Legends, shock waves in Fortnite, and now slide cancelling in Call of Duty: Warzone and Vanguard. But has the latter ruined the game? Infinity Ward appears to think so.

Slide cancelling has been both a blessing and a curse in Call of Duty. The movement mechanic has widened the skill gap but has since driven players' hands into the ground, especially at the highest level.

Used to evade fire and 'break cameras', slide cancelling has become quite a necessity to being good at the games in recent years, rather than just having good shooting abilities, but after multiple complaints about the feature, Infinity Ward look prepared to axe it going into Modern Warfare 2.

FaZe Swagg Claims Modern Warfare 2 Testing Has No Slide Cancelling

Despite making the feature prominent in Modern Warfare (2019), Infinity Ward has apparently axed slide cancelling for MW2, according to FaZe Clan's Kris "Swagg" Lamberson.

Swagg, amongst other content creators, got to play an early access run of MW2 at the Infinity Ward headquarters and has since claimed that slide cancelling is gone.

"The movement is different. You have the dolphin dive now, you have that aspect in the game," Swagg said. After he was quizzed on whether slide cancelling was in the game, he added: "Not like how you think it is."

What's Going On With The Modern Warfare 2 Movement?

Many players have called for a movement overhaul, given slide cancelling and auto tac sprint have resulted in a lot of strain for players. Seth "Scump" Abner recently confessed that if slide cancelling was removed it would add years to his career length, while players such as Indrevir "iLLeY" Dhaliwal and Thomas "ZooMaa" Paparatto have both suffered injuries due to the techniques - the latter whose CDL career was ended by a hand injury.

Streamers such as Nick "NICKMERCS" Kolcheff have also said the movement needs to change for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2

With that in mind, it now appears that Infinity Ward is listening. Leaks have suggested that dolphin diving is back (as confirmed by Swagg), now that slide cancelling is gone.

IW have been vocal in saying that the movement will still be high-paced, but as to how the crouching and sliding will work, we're going to have to wait and see.
