The cost of living crisis is seeping into the gaming world.

Of course, things everywhere are a little tight, and it's clear that everyone is feeling the pinch. It spells trouble for the gaming world, as while people are trying to keep afloat, non-essential items are taking a backseat, and that includes video games. And, to make matters worse for gaming fans, the price of the PS5 was yesterday increased to compensate for increasing prices.

It has proven controversial to say the least, and now, Xbox has responded.

The price hike of video game consoles doesn't look to be reaching Xbox just yet, as Microsoft has issued a comment on the price increase from PlayStation.

In a statement given to Windows Central, the team at Microsoft has confirmed that they intend to stick with their current pricing structure, which has stayed the same since the launch of the Xbox Series X|S.

"We are constantly evaluating our business to offer our fans great gaming options," reveals the statement. "Our Xbox Series S suggested retail price remains at $299 (£250, €300) the Xbox Series X is $499 (£450, €500)."

The issued statement might come off as unintentionally catty, but it's a strong message. As has been the case since the start of the video game generation, it looks like Xbox is proving to be the economical choice.

How Much Is The PlayStation 5?

The news that arrived yesterday came as a big shock to fans, and now that the prices of the consoles in Sony's corner of the console wars have shot up, fans are being forced to reconsider which consoles they buy.

Over here in the UK, the discless version of the PlayStation 5 will now cost £389.99, and the full version will cost £479.99 - but considering that finding the consoles without a bundle here anyway, the cost won't be ending there.

It's a huge shame to see the price hike, as many fans feel the move is unfair - but hell, it's good news for Microsoft. Xbox could be about to reveal a massive clapback - and the fans of drama in us are secretly very excited.
