The Green Team is set to look like the cat that got the cream, as the long-awaited release of Stray on Xbox is closer than we first thought. Released in 2022, BlueTwelve Studio's impressive indie swept the awards board as a PlayStation exclusive, but now, Sony's exclusivity has ended.

Who'd have thought that touring a neon-splashed apocalypse with only robots for company would be quite so adorable? Playing as the titular stray, even dog lovers were won over by this feline favourite. Although Stray also launched on PC, it's finally time to boot up your Xbox to play.

Stray's Xbox release is just around the corner

As shared by Twitter user @MACOS380, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has now rated Stray for Xbox One and Xbox Series. As well as confirming we're getting a last-gen release like when it came to PS4, we know that Stray should be just over the horizon.

ESRB ratings usually come toward the end of a game's production and is one of the final steps before release. If you want to play or are worried about little ones playing, Stray is rated E for Everyone 10+, although there is some animated blood and fantasy violence.

The official rating reads: "Players sometimes encounter parasitic blobs/mice-like bots that can attack and kill the cat. Players can access a UV light to defeat the mice-like bots, causing them to explode and emit splashes of coloured liquid."

When could Stray release on Xbox?

Annoyingly, there's still no concrete release date for Stray on Xbox. Heading into speculation territory, the title was originally released on July 19, and if Sony secured a year of PlayStation exclusivity, late July 2023 could be a likely date to mark in the diary.

With Stray heading to Xbox, there will be obvious questions about whether it'll also make the leap to Game Pass. Xbox's subscription service is a big deal that (apparently) recently helped the maligned Redfall find a new fan base and soar up the charts. Sadly, you won't be able to mod dogs into Stray on Xbox.

Stray doesn't exactly need a lot of help, as it ended up being Steam's second-highest-rated game of 2022 behind Vampire Survivors. Still, it's sure to earn a new legion of players as the "purrfect" addition to Xbox's 2023 roster.
