We're opening up the toy box and gathering our "small soldiers" for Digital Cybercherries' Hypercharge: Unboxed. Sadly, the indie shooter has been getting press for all the wrong reasons, as the developers have had to ask players to stop harassing its staff.

Giving a mix of Small Soldiers and Toy Story, the game has become our latest obsession after it exploded on Twitter. In Hypercharge, co-operative play is the aim of the game, with teams (or going solo) fighting wave after wave of increasingly weaponised toys. Following an under the radar launch in 2020, it's hitting the big time with an upcoming Xbox release.

Why Are Players Harassing The Hypercharge Staff?

After being released on Steam back in 2020, Hypercharge later arrived on Switch. Still, it's the Xbox release that has got everyone gunning for this plastic and fantastic adventure. While the devs have been enjoying this recent uptick in interest, it's come with some uncomfortable side effects.

As impatient gamers wait for news on an Xbox release date, they're turned against the dev team and have been sending abusive messages. Refusing to bow to the haters, the Hypercharge Twitter shared a scathing tweet warning its critics that this is not the way to get the toy title to come out any sooner.

In an emotionally charged message, we're reminded that the devs at Digital Cybercherries are "human beings with feelings." We're also told that the team is only a small contingent of five. This likely makes the abuse being thrown their way even more hard-hitting. We're told Hypercharge is definitely coming to Xbox, so just hold your horses. Still, there's no word on potential Hypercharge crossplay or whether we'll get a Hypercharge PS4/PS5 release.

What Is The Hypercharge Xbox Release Date?

The tweet concludes that you can't have a Hypercharge release date for Xbox because there simply isn't one yet. It goes on to reiterate how they want to deliver the best version they can on Xbox. The last thing we want is another disastrous Cyberpunk 2077 situation, but it can work both ways in terms of delaying a game for the right reasons and dragging out a release until fans are sharpening their pitchforks.

Sadly, hurling abuse at developers seems to be the norm recently. We only just covered how Sony Santa Monica staff were being harassed over the God of War Ragnarok release date, which included the uncomfortable situation of a female worker being sent inappropriate pictures by male fans. Thankfully, both the Ragnarok and Hypercharge dramas have shown the support of the larger community and how a few bad apples are ruining it for the rest of us.
