There's horror on the tracks, as Two Star Games' Choo-Choo Charles is chugging into our lives in a big way later this year. Although we already knew this terrifying Thomas the Tank Engine was coming to Steam, it turns out the locomotive horror is now coming to console too.

Survival horror games are everywhere these days, and just when you think the industry has run out of ideas, along comes a new one. Who'd have thought animatronic bears and ducks would give us nightmares? But then, there was Five Nights at Freddy's. In that same vein of out-there horror ideas, Choo-Choo Charles is an idea that's just wild enough to work.

What Do We Know About Choo-Choo Charles?

During Summer Game Fest's Day of the Devs segment, Two Star Games lifted the lid on Choo-Choo Charles in a gritty gameplay trailer that showed us what's on the way from the open-world horror. In Choo-Choo Charles, you're relentlessly chased across the map by the titular spider train.

Players are equipped with their own train and an arsenal of weapons to take on Charles, but as theirs doesn't have spider legs, it's trapped on the tracks. Leaving the safety of your engine, you can hunt for supplies and complete missions to help the locals, but bear in mind, Charles is never far behind.

When you think you're well equipped, the final challenge is to summon Charles for a 1v1 battle where only one of you will make it out alive. To be honest, he's the kind of villain we'd expect to see in a Resident Evil game. Based on Stephen King's 2016 children's book called Charlie the Choo-Choo, it was actually extracted from King's The Dark Tower series.

When Choo-Choo Charles was released in late 2021, developer Gavin Eisenbeisz explained how he's a one-man development team who'd only come up with the idea a couple of months before the reveal. Although he was inspired by Thomas the Tank Engine, the various Skyrim and Resident Evil train mods weren't his inspiration.

As well as a PC outing, Two Star has confirmed Choo-Choo Charles is also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. There's no news on how much the console ports will cost - or an exact launch schedule - but know that Choo-Choo Charles will be looking for fresh meat soon. As the game's description says, "Charles is hungry; don't be his next meal."
