If you're hungry like the wolf, we've got some great Fortnite news for you. With the hunter-filled Chapter 2 Season 5 coming to a dramatic end with the Zero Crisis Finale event, it's time to look ahead at what's next for Epic Games' battle royale favourite. It's time to take a walk on the wild side and practice your best David Attenborough impression because tameable pets are being added to the map.

As usual, dataminers and casual players alike have been combing every inch of the map to look for a hint of what's coming in Chapter 2 Season 6. Epic VP Mark Rein had already promised a "wild" Season 6 - which left some underwhelmed - however, it sounds like he'll make good on his promise. Well, as long as it's better than the hyped expectations Chapter 2 Season 5 would be "chaotic", we should be okay.

The season's teaser also showed a concerned Agent Jonesy warning the end is nigh, while imagery of snarling wolf teeth played in the background. With this looking different from the previously released Dire skin, we were on the money that tameable wolves would be coming in the next season. The thing is, it sounds like they're not alone. A whole menagerie of animals is set to leap off the Battle Bus.

What are tameable pets in Fortnite Season 6?

Alongside the aforementioned wolves, notable leaker HYPEX claims they'll be joined by chickens, boars, and frogs. Quite why you'd want a tameable frog by your side in the game is beyond us, but there you go. While HYPEX only mentions the wovles as tameable, we imagine the rest of the animals will have some sort of use as well. Much like the various spawn locations for last season's NPCs, they could be scattered around the map. Then again, we're guessing Weeping Woods (if it's still there) will be a hotbed of wildlife. Imagine the Forbidden Forest in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

We also don't know how these "pets" will work. Will they simply be by your side like the Baby Yoda backbling, or will they have a more important purpose to help you in battle? A bit like when you recruited Fishtick and co. as bodyguards in Chapter 5, we're hoping there's a mechanic where your sidekick boars and wolves can tear through enemies with claws and tusks. If this is the case, it then raises questions about what use a chicken or a frog could be - unless rivals fancy being pecked to death or hit by a massive tongue.

At least one dataminer suggests chickens could have a more practical use rather than just flap around the map. Some claim they could be used to negate fall damage like a glider. No more falling off the watchtower in Weeping Woods to an early grave.

What else do we know about tameable pets in Fortnite Chapter 6?

Posting on Twitter, Max Fortnite Leaks clarified all the above and also mentioned something called the Spire Guardian. We have no idea what the Spire Guardian could be, but at a guess, what about some sort of wise sage that's responsible for the tameable animals coming to the map? Added to this, there are claims customisable weapons will be big news in Season 6. We'd already heard about the option to mod your arsenal, but in a new development, animal bones and meat could play a part in this.

Returning to the Zelda series, the release of Breath of the Wild in 2017 saw hunting become crucial to the game and give players a way to regain health and create potions. Wolves were first teased in Fortnite last December, and although they didn't arrive as part of Season 5, it's arguably better they come with another proposed revamp of the map and how we play the Fortnite we've come to know and love. If tameable pets live up to expectations in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6, this really could be one of the best yet.
