Alan Wake 2 was a critical surprise last year, earning itself plenty of high-profile Game of the Year nominations - just as it deserved. The bizarre visuals, narrative and ever-expanding world of the RemedyVerse have always been a highlight of storytelling in video games, and Alan Wake 2 saw the company at the very height of its powers, drip-feeding Control-adjacent narratives into its topsy-turvy adventure.

And now, as fans gear up for upcoming DLC, and it has been revealed that a new milestone has been hit, fans are wondering what’s next for the world’s most disturbed thriller author.

Sam Lake has wrapped Alan Wake 2 DLC filming, and fans are theorising

Sam Lake has revealed in a new post to Twitter that his time as a mo-cap actor for Alex Casey has come to an end in Alan Wake 2, after performing in its upcoming DLC packs.

It’s a wrap for me as an actor in Alan Wake 2,” he says. “My final DLC pickup motion capture shoot done. What a ride it has been.

Even though Lake will appear in the Alan Wake 2 DLC, we still don’t actually know anything about the new content yet to come to the game, and frankly, we don’t even know how big a part Lake’s character, Alex Casey, will play. It won’t stop fans from theorising, though, and they’ve been pointing out on Reddit that Control’s own Jesse Faden actress Courtney Hope has recently shared some photos from inside a photo booth. This has hinted to players that the director of the FBC could be appearing in the upcoming DLC after appearing as a flashing image in the core game of Alan Wake 2.

Even if Hope does reappear to join Casey, Lake himself has been very clear that we’re not about to get another AWE expansion.

Naturally, Remedy loves to leave teases to the future of its works in existing properties, and they’ve never done it more vividly than in AWE, the DLC pack for Control that directly tethered Alan Wake’s work and the events of his first game directly to Jesse Faden’s work. It was a loud crossover, and it was a thrill for fans - but it looks like we’re not in for a similarly extensive crossover this time around.

"The expansions give us an opportunity to glimpse aspects of our universe that were not able to explore in Alan Wake 2 otherwise," Lake says to Exputer.

"We are excited about this. We were happy with what we achieved with Control's AWE expansion regarding setting up Alan Wake 2. That said, we are not looking to repeat that exactly.

"The Lake House will have a big focus on the Federal Bureau of Control and its research facility at Cauldron Lake. Beyond that, no matter how much, there will be hints about things to come in the Control sequel, you'll have to wait and see."

It might not be the next meeting of the minds between Wake and Faden that we were looking for, but there’s little doubt that the world of Alan Wake is about to get much, much bigger regardless.
