Fans Furious After eUnited Announce Halo Infinite Esports Team - Not CoD
eUnited has announced the signing of four Halo professionals as they look to cement their legacy in esports upon the release of Halo Infinite.
However, some long-standing fans of the organisation are furious, as they have been teasing an entry to the Call of Duty league for some time.
The American organisation have been dropping subtle and cryptic hints at what their next step in esports will be, and as the Call of Duty League season came to a conclusion, the org used many of their championship-winning clips to discuss their "legacy".
eUnited Announce Halo Infinite Team
With the clock ticking down to an expected announcement, many of their long-time supporters expected that the organisation was entering the CDL, amid rumours of an expansion or a purchasing of the Paris Legion spot, or at least the Challengers scene alongside the likes of Kansas City Pioneers.
However, their announcement was to coincide with the Halo Infinite Esports partnership that will see nine of the world's top esports teams field teams.
eUnited became one of nine orgs to join the Halo Infinite esports partnership and the first to reveal their roster for the title, which has yet to be released. Tyler "Spartan" Ganza, Ryan "RyaNoob" Geddes, Nick "KingNick" Panzella, and Timothy "Rayne" Tinkler (a majority of the former Pride roster) have signed with United.
Cloud9, Envy, FaZe Clan, Fnatic, G2 Esports, Natus Vincere, Sentinels, and Spacestation Gaming, join United in the Halo Infinite partnership.
Fans React Furiously To United Halo Announcement
After baiting fans in with CDL messages and clips of the beloved Call of Duty 2019 World Championship roster (now mainly of the Atlanta FaZe dynasty), fans have taken to the replies to vent their frustration. One angered supporter said, "f**k off you cant just show cod clips and have the f*****g announcement be Halo."
Much of the anger directed at eUnited stems from their clickbaity approach to their announcement, which on its own is one of enough gravity to be a successful launch. However, their marketing strategy was tailored towards CoD fans, who are now left disappointed.
Further comments question their intentions, with one fan quizzing "Why bait for CoD so heavily though? love this org but damn that's some of the most unprofessional, immature and redundant things I've ever seen from an organization. teasing and baiting CoD just to announce a team for a dead game."
Despite the potential lack of opportunities in Call of Duty esports, eUnited were also heavily linked to be merging with OpTic Gaming, back in May, which led to more hopefuls. OpTic has now been reported to be merging with Envy, ending one of the most illustrious rivalries in esports history, which also opened up opportunities for an entrance to the league.
As for the Halo team, eUnited will hope that a percentage of the fans tuned into their announcement will also enjoy Halo, bringing in a slice of a bigger pie to their fan base.
