How's the largely multiplayer-only Battlefield 2042 working out for you, Electronic Arts? In the ultimate case of putting your foot in your mouth, EA has been caught in a scandal for the ages as it seemingly mocks single-player games and single-player gamers online.

Up there with Activision Blizzard, EA's catalogue boasts a whole host of AAA games and franchises that encompasses everything from FIFA to BattlefieldThe Sims to Apex Legends. It would be wrong to call it a multiplayer-only publisher, and let's remember giants like Mass Effect and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order have helped put it on the map. Probably best not to alienate your fans.

What Did EA Say About Single-Player Games?

In a terribly timed tweet, the official EA Twitter seemed to call out those who like to play single-player games. Jumping in on the popular (but sometimes toxic) trend, EA wrote, "They're a 10 but they only like playing single-player games". In incredible scenes, the OG tweet has racked up over 7,000 replies.

Whoever posted this tweet, they're sure to be in hot water about now. YouTuber Jacksepticeye boasts over 30 million subscribers and sniped back, "They're a 10 but thought this tweet was a good idea." This was just the tip of a very large iceberg. We love good roast here, and safe to say, EA got well and truly scorched. Industry insider Tom Henderson chuckled, "They're a 10 but they blame Battlefield 2042's launch on Halo Infinite" in response to DICE's lame excuse for the shooter's stumble.

Head of Respawn Entertainment Vince Zampella posted the facepalm emoji, Geoff Keigley shared an old EA article, while the real middle finger came from Zach Mumbach. The producer worked on the likes of Dead Space 2 and clearly has no love for EA after it shuttered Visceral Games in 2017. In a tweet that's been retweeted over 5.5k times, Mumbach said: "This is the company that shut down my studio and laid off ~100 great developers because we were making a single-player game." Feel the burn.

What Has EA Said About The Drama?

Trying to do some serious damage control, the EA account later tweeted saying, "Roast well deserved. We’ll take this L cause playing single-player games actually makes them an 11." Even this wasn't enough to appease angry gamers calling for EA's head on a spike. Some think the whole thing was an elaborate trolling for engagement, but most agree there's been some massive backpedalling.

Is an especially big thumbs down considering the state of EA's multiplayer options right now. As well as FIFA having to rebrand its name to EA Sports FC, there are reports that Star Wars Battlefront 3 has been canned to focus efforts on the bloated corpse that is Battlefield 2042. All of this is before we get to THAT Anthem debacle. Considering upcoming games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Mass Effect 4 are helping secure EA's future right now, disregarding these titles and their players was a major F in the chat.
