Get ready to slay another day, as Behaviour Interactive tries to lure new and old players alike into the blood-soaked world of Dead by Daylight. While the asymmetrical horror has been bludgeoning rivals since 2016, 2022 is a massive year for Dead by Daylight as the developer is pulling out all the stops.
Alongside a new Saw content drop, there's been the recent Ringu crossover, as well as rumours of a Dead by Daylight dating sim. That's right, you could feel the cold embrace of Freddy Krueger's claws running through your hair during a romantic late-night stroll. Back in the main game though, Dead by Daylight is getting a free-to-play weekend... for some of you.
When Is Dead By Daylight's Free-To-Play Weekend?
Live right now, the free-to-play Dead by Daylight weekend is running until March 14. If that wasn't enough, there's a massive DbD DLC sale, meaning you can enjoy the horrors of everything from Stranger Things to Hellraiser, Resident Evil to Ash vs Evil Dead for just a fraction of their original price.
This isn't the first time we've seen Dead by Daylight go free, however, not everyone can join in the fun. The tweet shows that the terrifying title will be free on all the usual storefronts like PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, but what about Nintendo Switch? Considering the Switch version of the game has been out since 2019, it's not like it has all the problems of a fresh-faced port that might hinder a free weekend.
Remember that Dead by Daylight is already included in Game Pass, so we're also not sure what most Xbox owners are gaining here. Others weren't impressed with the free weekend, with one critic writing: "Game must really be hurting to push another free weekend on the community again. Crazy it's been dying on steam the last 5 months I guess they need some kind of way to push those numbers back to positive. If yall fix the game correctly maybe people wouldn't leave it in the dust."
What's Next For Dead By Daylight?
As Fortnite has continued to prove, we love crossovers. Although Dead by Daylight's core game and Survivors like Claudette going up against the Trickster, let's be honest that we're all here to see Freddy, Jason, Michael, Leatherface, and the rest. Still, we're left asking where is that rumoured Annabelle DLC?
Even though there are all the usual grumbles of a "dead game", Behaviour Interactive clearly has a beefy roadmap of where Dead by Daylight is heading. You only have to look at how horror games like Phasmophobia have dropped off to see the devs are clearly doing something right here. Still, a free weekend is a free weekend, and if you're new to Dead by Daylight, here's hoping it will have you screaming for more.
