Even some 17 years after World of Warcraft cemented itself at the core of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game community, it's clear Blizzard Entertainment's beloved title still has a lot of love out there. One fan that might surprise you all is Jack "CouRage" Dunlop. It turns out that when CouRage isn't sweating it out on Sweaty Sands or hunting down the competition in Hunter's Haven with Fortnite, he's partial to casting spells and banishing demons in Azeroth.

If you thought WoW was done and dusted, the recent BlizzCon Online confirmed things are moving into a new era with the upcoming Chains of Domination expansion. With Blizzard Chief Executive Bobby Kotic confirming Shadowlands broke the franchise record in terms of pre-sales, the addition of Domination is also expected to be a major win for MMORPG. By the sounds of it, CouRage is already flexing his muscles and is keen to brush up on the game that apparently saved his career.

How did playing World of Warcraft save CouRage's career?

Speaking during an all-star episode of Trainwreck’s Scuffed Podcast, CouRageJD told Imane "Pokimane" Anys, Rachel "Valkyrae" Hofstetter, and Ali "Myth" Kabbani (among others) how WoW has given him a positive outlook on the gaming circuit. Explaining why WoW has helped provide a sense of community, CouRage said, "I wouldn’t play if I didn’t have 20 of my best friends that are all together on".

He added, "That's why I was late tonight because we were just raiding for the last three hours. I don't care how frustrating a certain boss can be challenge-wise or whatever. If I didn't have World of Warcraft these last two months, with the state of gaming right now, I would've thought that I was falling out of love with gaming". Thankfully, CouRage concluded, "This game, I still love".

Fellow streamer QuarterJade backed up CouRage's musings and added, "That seems fun regardless of the game". She's right, that no matter what the game, part of the fun is playing with friends. Any game that has a competitive edge is better when you play with pals, which is why Duos, Trios, and Squads are such a big part of modern multiplayer games.

Why does CouRage love World of Warcraft

CouRage presumably finds joy from the fact World of Warcraft has largely stayed the same over the course of its lifespan. Despite the numerous updates, expansions, and tweaks, it very much still plays as it did back in 2004. Last year, CouRage was vocal about the "state" of modern gaming and slammed Activision for Call of Duty: Warzone's feeble attempt at anti-cheat.

In a February 15 YouTube video, CouRage explained why he no longer plays the battle royale favourite and told his fans “The reason why I stopped playing with Nick, Tim and Cloak is because I’m sick of that game. I love Warzone, but I also hate it. We either get cheated against, then we have stream snipers coming after us. There’s the stim glitch for the seventh time". He even joked that Activision should put him in charge of Warzone.

Elsewhere he's been open about stepping away from Fortnite during that big skill-based matchmaking debacle of Chapter 2. Even though CouRage is now back on the Fortnite train, it sounds like WoW helped him through a couple of tough months where he's questioned his future as a pro-streamer. A quick search of CouRage's timeline show's he's a big Warcraft fan, and apart from the odd complaint, seems pretty happy with Blizzard's MMORPG after all these years. Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
