Activision is having a huge year when it comes to Call of Duty, and if you're dying for more scoop on the upcoming Black Ops Cold War Season 1, we've got some news on the multiplayer's Scorestreaks. While Black Ops Cold War is still fresh to the fight in terms of release, it's definitely living up to its own hype of being the biggest CoD game to date. With Treyarch back in the saddle after the maligned Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 from 2018, the developer is changing tack and giving us a blast from the past with the period setting of the Cold War.

Treyarch has already unveiled its grand plans to keep Cold War ticking in 2021, but for the time being, let's kick things off with a jam-packed Season 1. Ahead of the game's full release, there was a slew of leaks that revealed pretty much everything (including Scorestreaks). Now, we're getting an official confirmation that new Scorestreaks could be coming to Warzone

Cold War season 1 scorestreaks: What's been said?

Posting on Twitter, Lead Game Designer Tony Flame hyped the arrival of new Scorestreaks and confirmed them alongside Cold War guns and attachments for Warzone. One of the game's biggest pulls has been the promise of integration between Warzone and Cold War, with the leak of a "Rebirth Island" map looking increasingly on the money.

Scorestreaks, in general, have become a major point of contention in Cold War. Fandom has been split into two camps on whether Killstreaks or Scorestreaks are the better system. While some think Scorestreaks level the playing field, others slam them as a way to reward bad players. Like them or loathe them, it sounds like they're going to be a big part of Cold War Season 1. Scorestreaks were first introduced in Black Ops 2 and gave players unlockables like airstrikes and UAVs by hitting a certain point threshold instead of consecutive kills.

Treyarch is trying the best of both worlds approach with Killstreaks working alongside Scorestreaks to make sure mid-tier players are getting the same perks as high-tier. Thankfully, Scorestreaks are put on a cooldown timer, meaning we won't have the previous problem of the map being blown to pieces by a continuous stream of Scorestreak players activating one after the other.

Which Cold War Season 1 Scorestreaks are on the way?

Although Flame stopped short of revealing which Scorestreaks are coming, it's interesting to note a previously leaked list mentioned five that had been cut. They were found lurking in the back of the Beta build, suggesting these could be the new Cold War Season 1 Scorestreaks on the way. As a refresher, the reportedly cut Scorestreaks were:

  • Flamethrower
  • Death Machine
  • Hand Cannon
  • Strafe Run
  • H.A.R.P.

It's important to remember the above five were taken out before the final build, suggesting they might be gone for good. Added to this, gamers are rightly questioning whether Treyarch would introduce all the Scorestreaks at once or pepper them throughout the ongoing release of seasons. With Warzone boasting a whopping 85 million players, it's about time we branched out a bit. A whole new island and some new Scorestreaks should do just nicely.
