Black Ops Cold War: Warzone Season 1 Reportedly Hit By Delay

While we roll out the Call of Duty welcome wagon for the integration between Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, we could be about to be delivered a crushing below. Players have marked December 10 in their diary as the big day we'll get to see Cold War sweep across the Warzone map and wipe out Verdansk with something new. Unfortunately, new rumours suggest the Warzone update could be pushed back.

There have been plenty of leaks surrounding Season 1, with the latest claiming the revamped Warzone will be called "Rebirth Island" and bring back an Alcatraz-themed makeover alongside the return of Black Ops 2's "Raid" map. After Season 6 of Modern Warfare and Warzone were extended, we could be about to pay the price with a delayed Cold War merger

Cold War Warzone delay: What's the rumour?

We're just days away from the supposed release of Cold War Season 1, but according to unofficial news account @ModernWarfare, the Warzone side has been delayed until December 19. Posting on Twitter, the account wrote, "Just been informed from a credible source, who will remain anonymous, that the Dec 10th patch for BOCW integration with Warzone will be delayed to Dec 19th".

Although you'll still have new Operators, maps, perks, scorestreaks, and the first Cold War Battle Pass, Warzone integration was a huge selling point and guaranteed to give the game a boost in its second month. Even if Cold War Warzone is being delayed, the good news is that the multiplayer side of the base Cold War game won't be affected. Much like how Modern Warfare and Warzone have worked hand in hand since the battle royale game launched in March 2020, Cold War is expected to have a symbiotic relationship with Warzone.

Cold War Warzone delay: Is it real?

The account didn't reveal this "source", and admitted we should take things with a pinch of salt until Activision or Treyarch give the official word. At the time of writing, there's been no news on whether this is legitimate. As we tick closer to December 10, we'd have expected news of such a dramatic shake-up to have been announced by now. Then again @ModernWarfare is usually on the money with its leaks.

Interestingly, some have suggested it could be to do with the release of Cyberpunk 2077 on December 10. Considering CD Projekt Red's long-awaited game has faced its own delays, there's a small army of gamers who've even booked the day off to play Cyberpunk 2077. It would be a shrewd marketing move for Cold War: Warzone to delay so it's not fighting for the same playerbase.

The impressive Cold War roadmap mentioned a "classified" Warzone experience that will be unveiled once the update drops. We already know Battle Pass levels and XP will be shared across Cold War and Warzone to hopefully continue Activision's current domination of the market. Activision just confirmed it's made $3 billion from Call of Duty in the past 12 months, with Warzone being to thank for a huge portion of this. Will Cold War Warzone really be delayed? If so, expect developers to be even more hated than the Juggernaut.
