CD Projekt Red is branching out from its main franchise of The Witcher with a brand new AR game that could rival the likes of Pokemon GO. Coming to Android and iOS, The Witcher: Monster Slayer is confirmed as a free-to-play mobile game that will send you out into the real world to look for some very fictional monsters (we hope). Similar to other AR games, weather and time of day will affect which monsters you come across.
The developer explained, "Preparation is key in order to defeat tougher enemies, as players will need to brew powerful potions and oils, craft bombs and monster bait, and upgrade their character before putting these beasts to the sword and signs in first-person AR combat".
The first trailer for The Witcher: Monster Slayer showed off how things work, tasking players with suiting up as their own magical Witcher to take on those murderous monsters lurking in the shadows. Just like how Geralt of Rivia keeps trophies from his kills, you'll get to expand your own cabinet of accomplishments.
Stories will be based on the games and live-action series, meaning there should be more of a narrative than something like Pokemon GO or Harry Potter: Wizard's Unite. Given the popularity of the Netflix series and Henry Cavill helping bring The Witcher to the mainstream, it's easy to see how this one will be popular among fans old and new.
