Vanguard isn’t even out yet, and already, Call of Duty fans are speculating what could be coming after. In a whiplash-inducing change of pace and setting, rumours are beginning to swirl that the next Call of Duty title could be a continuation of the reboot of the Modern Warfare series. It’s a mouthful, but apparently, it’s coming.

And as rumours trawl across Twitter, even more maddening features are being revealed - and one of these suggested features is set to turn MW into Konami's forgotten P.T. revamp of Silent Hill

Modern Warfare 2 Could Have P.T Style Mode

Apparently, the upcoming Call of Duty title is set to draw massive influence from one of the most beloved horror experiences of the 21st century - P.T, otherwise known as the playable trailer for the now-canned Silent Hills.

Twitter leaker RalphsValve, who’s become known for tweeting primarily leaks pertaining to the Call of Duty franchise, has suggested that a mode inspired by the horror modern classic could be coming to the game in place of the Special Ops mode.

It sounds like Modern Warfare 2 could feature night vision and covert ops in the face of some horrifying entity - and it makes for the idea of a mode that is whole new ground for the franchise. It’s an interesting way for the series to head, but a welcome one given the many Modern Warfare titles we’ve now had. Added to this, the return of Special Ops could just make the game seem like more of the same.

This is a bold step, but players might be asking - why is Infinity War trying horror, and why now?

Infinity Ward Could Be Trying Horror To Match Zombies

There’s every chance a mode like this is a result of the huge success of Treyarch’s Zombies mode, and the final concession that other studios can’t quite match the charm of the original. There's no escaping the popularity of Zombies, and with anger that the full Dark Aether arc isn't launching alongside Vanguard, Infinity Ward should strike while the iron is hot.

The franchise has made its attempts before, with Exo-Zombies and Extinction in the past, but no mode has ever lived up to the Treyarch classic, so this P.T-style influence could be Infinity Ward’s way of jumping into the spooky without stepping on the toes of the fan-favourite mode.

It's a fascinating concept, and with Call of Duty being such a massive franchise, it’s nice to see developers genuinely take influence from other games - especially those so different in genre and approach. If this comes to fruition, there’s every chance it could be a huge step for the franchise and might even convince Infinity Ward to make a full-on horror title. Fingers crossed, eh?
