Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Is Getting A Fan-Made Remaster
Who needs developers when you've got eleven tech-savvy community personalities that can do the job for you?
Back in April, Activision released a remastered version of the most beloved Call of Duty ever but left out one key component: the multiplayer experience. Modern Warfare 2 has been widely debated as the best Call of Duty ever made, and when Activision opted to dismiss the multiplayer remake, fans were less than impressed.
Activision previously stated that the reason that they were refusing to remaster MW2 multiplayer was that they feel that the gameplay has come too far and that a remastered version would be detrimental to its legacy, but this was not enough for fans. Now, eleven members of the Call of Duty community have joined forces to recreate the maps and engine.
The team boasts Project Leaders, Weapon specialists, Mappers, Scripters, and Core Gameplay experts, all of whom are combining forces to recreate the game in the smoothest possible way. They even have content creators such as Noah "NoahJ456" as testers for the mod.
Click to enlargeThe remaster is set to have nine maps upon release, with the timeless classics such as Rust, Scrapyard, and Terminal being the forefront. Back in May, the Lead Developer "Gunoftruth" revealed that they intend to release at least the alpha and beta tests before the end of this year.
The game will in fact be a remaster of Black Ops 3, although it will be designed to use the Modern Warfare 2 maps, weapons, and movement mechanics, solely using the BO3 engine. Don't fear, Jet Packs will not be included.
In a question and answer session via their discord server, the modder also revealed that the game will be free to play, although donations towards the team can be made beforehand to help the process along.

Q: Will you be able to inspect weapons?
A: Short answer, yes. Long answer, yes.
Q: Will this mod be available on consoles?
A: Nope, not even on the router PS5 or fridge Xbox Series X. Sorry!
Q: Will sniper scopes be 2D overlays like the original or 3D like MWR\MW2CR?
A: They'll be 3D like MWR\MW2CR
Q: Why will sniper scopes not be 2D overlays? Can it be an option?
A: No - we will not do 2D overlays, and it will never be an option. You're talking us using outdated scope tech that's deprecated in Black Ops III firstly, and when you're going for a remaster of visuals, it happens that creating better-looking scopes is a part of that.
Q: Does the mod have controller support and aim assist?
A: Controller support will be the same as Black Ops 3's built-in support, supporting both Xbox and PS4 controllers. There is aim assist.
Q: Are Deathstreaks returning?
A: Sadly, yes. They won't be in earlier builds like the Alpha though.
