It's the dawn of a new era for Nintendo's long-running Zelda franchise, as we finally know when we'll be able to take flight above Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. While fans have been told Breath of the Wild 2 is just a placeholder name for now, this year's E3 confirmed we're on track for a 2022 release date.

Following in the footsteps of 2017's OG Breath of the Wild, the sequel will presumably chart another adventure in the Great Calamity timeline. The Zelda games have played fast and loose with their lore over the years, but with a convenient reset explaining everything that's come before has faded into myth, the writers have been able to craft their own story.

When can you pre-order Breath of the Wild 2?

E3 gave a tantalising tease that BOTW2 will take flight above Hyrule - hinting that it could also be a sequel to 2011's Skyward Sword. If you can't wait until 2022, rejoice that Breath of the Wild 2 is already for pre-order. According to multiple outlets, BOTW2 is currently live for pre-order on the likes of Amazon and Best Buy in the United States, while Amazon and Game are offering it in the UK.

All of the above are for physical copies only, however, the game is also expected to be listed on the Nintendo eShop at a later date. Discussing when Breath of the Wild will officially be hitting shelves and Switches, Game Director Eiji Aonuma only gave a vague release of 2022. That doesn't give us much to go on, but at least Nintendo has some wiggle room if things don't go to plan.

How much is the Breath of the Wild 2 pre-order?

Across the board, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is listed at $59.99/£59.99. It's frustrating that those in the UK are paying more than their American counterparts, but it's becoming more commonplace that titles are launching with a universal pricing structure no matter what the currency is.

Even though there's no official news on whether there will be a Collector's Edition for Breath of the Wild 2, previous releases suggest there will be several versions for you to splash your Rupees on. Also, given the upcoming release of Skyward Sword HD and its limited edition Joy-Cons, could we see some special accessories, or maybe even another tie-in Switch console to add to our collection?

Either way, the impending drop of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is easily going to be one of 2022's biggest gaming releases. With the first game being the best-selling Zelda game of all time and taking the honour of being one of the best-selling video games of all time, all eyes are on the sequel to see if it can deliver, or it'll be resigned to the depths of obscure Zelda sequels that fell under their own weight.
