Since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard last month, one of the biggest questions that players have been asking is whether World of Warcraft could be coming to consoles.

It seems like the MMOs console debut is not completely off the table as an executive producer revealed they talk about bringing WoW to consoles “all the time”.

Blizzard talks about bringing WoW to consoles

Speaking to GamesRadar at Blizzcon 2023, Holly Longdale, the vice president and executive producer for World of Warcraft, indicated that Blizzard finds the idea of putting the MMO on consoles interesting.

When asked, she responded: “Of course! Yeah, we talk about it all the time.

"Right now, we're focused on the Worldsoul Saga. But if that comes up then we'll reexamine things but, man, we've got enough to deal with right now..

"We've got these three expansions and we are so excited about them. But, yeah, of course. It would be very insincere to say that we're not, of course we're talking about that," she said. "We are Microsoft now."

The Activision and Blizzard merger with Microsoft has had many fans of World of Warcraft wondering whether the game would be making its way to Xbox consoles.

Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, has previously stated that we are not going to see any Activision Blizzard titles popping up on Xbox consoles until 2024, however no-one has ruled out the MMO as it stands.

One of the roadblocks that could prevent WoW coming to consoles is the shift in audience, particularly due to the game being subscription based.

Since getting controller support alongside the Shadowlands expansion, World of Warcraft is more equipped to make the move to consoles than ever, but whether it will happen is yet to be seen.

Players are eager to see WoW come to console gaming

There has been a lot of discussion on social media platforms about World of Warcraft coming to console since the acquisition, and the concept has been largely well received.

“Put WOW on consoles, fulfil your destiny,” one fan tweeted to Phil Spencer.

Another said: “I will die happy if WOW comes to consoles.”

While some players are doubtful that the game will come to console,  others are holding out hope that the Microsoft acquisition could be the push that was needed all along.

It unfortunately doesn’t seem like WoW will be coming to consoles like Xbox anytime soon, especially with the three new expansions being announced, however the possibility of it happening in the future is exciting none-the-less.
