Leaks Hint At Return Of Prop Hunt In Black Ops Cold War

Activision is chugging ahead with the next chapter of its acclaimed Call of Duty series, and as Black Ops Cold War continues to find its stride, there's a hint of a fan-favourite return. Melding the past, present, and future, 2020's main series entry is the long-awaited sequel to 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops, but charts a whole different period of history.

We've already seen the much-hyped return of both Zombies and Sgt. Frank Woods, but now, it looks like a Black Ops Cold War Prop Hunt is giving us a blast from the past. While Cold War already has an impressive number of modes, the return of Prop Hunt is a big win for those who've been playing for a while.

First introduced in 2016's Modern Warfare Remastered, Prop Hunt has also popped up in the likes of WWII and Black Ops III. The beloved mode features a team of "props" hiding around the map and pretending to be random objects. It's pretty out-there, but either way, players can't get enough of it.

What is the Black Ops Cold War Prop Hunt leak?

Posting on YouTube, How Are You ATVI claims there are lines within Cold War that give a tease of Prop Hunt. Interestingly, there's a mention of both Hardcore and Barebones variations of Prop Hunt. We're left guessing what these could be, but Hardcore implies lower health for props and maybe more whistling to alert rivals to where they are. As for Barebones, what about a version where props are scattered in an increasingly barren landscape where they're much easier to spot?

During the video, you can hear lines including, "Almost there, destroy the remaining props", "Hide and survive", and "You are the last remaining prop, hang in there". In the past, we've been disguised as everything from fridges to bins, so everyone will be asking whether there will be a Cold War twist on this. Just imagine masquerading as one of the game's divisive trolleybus hybrids. We're expecting to see some suitably Soviet-themed props.

When could we see Black Ops Cold War Prop Hunt?

Although there's no timeframe on when Prop Hunt could be added, it looks increasingly likely that Treyarch is planning it at some point during the game's ever-expanding roadmap. Remember that we're on the cusp of the delayed Cold War Season 1, which is already promising to add a tonne of new content. Prop Mode might be an unusual choice, but it would definitely be one way to make the title's freshman season stand out from the crowd.

We've been missing Prop Mode after it sat out last year's Modern Warfare, and apart from a cameo in Call of Duty: Mobile, it was last seen in the maligned Black Ops 4. After a two-year hiatus, it's about time Prop Hunt returned to the main CoD series. Will we get this giant game of hide and seek permanently added to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War? Here's hoping so.
