Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 might have been one of the all-time greats, despite landing within the jet pack era, and the game continues to throw up curveballs like five-year-old Zombies Easter Eggs that are only just being solved.

Best known for its implementation of a Call of Duty battle royale, with Blackout, Black Ops 4 was one for the ages, However, it didn't have a Campaign, and as the only CoD title to have launched without one, this was seen as quite the blunder. Or, so we were led to believe.

The Call of Duty developers have harmoniously echoed that a Black Ops 4 campaign never existed and that all the focus was thrown into Blackout instead.

But new leaks have now emerged that have solidified that the rumoured co-op campaign did exist, and at one point, could've been a major part of the 2018 multiplayer.

Shared on Reddit, one fan showcased a range of animations that have come from the "scrapped" Black Ops 4 Campaign, including different weapon reloads, finishing moves, cut scenes, operator fights, and co-op elements like revives.

Originally, the Black Ops 4 Campaign was rumoured to be a 2v2 game mode, unlike anything we've ever seen in the franchise before, where players would battle through a post-apocalyptic 1970s world alongside a partner but racing against other foes.

"What a shame. A campaign with the specialists would have been amazing," said one fan on Reddit. Another added, "As someone who doesn’t really enjoy battle royale (not that blackout is bad by any means) I was pretty bummed that campaign was replaced by it."

Two-player campaign-like games have become increasingly popular following award-winning titles like It Takes Two, and Black Ops 4 could have been one step ahead of the competition...well, until it completely botched it.
