It's fair to say that Bethesda is a little busy right now. With Starfield coming out in 2023 and confirmed releases for The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 (eventually) further down the line, we imagine Todd Howard and co. haven't had much of a chance to catch a breather. But for irate gamers, that isn't enough.

Much like Rockstar Games has been on the money train when it comes to remastering and rereleasing old games, Bethesda is heading into the storeroom and dusting off an old favourite for new-gen consoles. Despite only coming out in 2015, we're promised a new-gen Fallout 4 update is on the way.

Bethesda claps back at new-gen Fallout 4 critics

While eight years might not seem like an enormous amount of time, things move differently in the gaming world. With Fallout 4 releasing on the PlayStation and Xbox One, it's looking a little rough around the edges when it comes to recent releases like God of War Ragnarok or Cyberpunk 2077 - now that it's fixed.

Much like how The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has never been far from our thoughts thanks to a multitude of releases, Bethesda has promised a new-gen Fallout 4 release. We're not sure entirely what that involves, but with it being announced as part of the franchise's 25th anniversary last October, we're dying for an update.

With so much mystery surrounding the new-gen Fallout 4, one disgruntled gamer took to Twitter to ask for an update. This caught the attention of Pete Hines, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing & Communications at Bethesda Softworks, who wasted no time putting them in their place.

"Dunno if you've heard but we are shipping a new game in 3 weeks. Bit of a priority. When we have an update, we will share it." It makes sense that Starfield is at the forefront of everyone's mind, but still, it's a pretty snappy response to someone asking for an update.

Does the new-gen Fallout 4 have a release date?

At the time of writing, there's no release date for the new-gen Fallout 4. When it was announced last year, we were told it would launch at some point in 2023. Still, as the months tick along and Starfield looks destined to take up all of Bethesda's time, we don't see that release window sticking.

There are some pretty solid theories that Bethesda is saving the release of the new-gen Fallout 4 for Amazon's Fallout TV series. Although the live-action adaptation doesn't look like it has a direct connection to the 2015 game, what better way to get people interested in both mediums than by releasing them at the same time?

While Fallout 4 can run at an impressive 60FPS and 1080p on a solid rig, it lacks 4K resolution support. The new-gen update is also set to integrate new Creation Club content, meaning there are plenty of reasons to stump up again. Well, it's more than the Red Dead Redemption port is giving us.
