Shortly after winning the world over with a pawfect performance upon its launch in 2022, Stray is officially being adapted into an animated movie.

The third-person adventure game saw players operate as a stray cat, as they solved puzzles to progress through a narrative that critics highly praised.

Now, Annapurna Animation has confirmed that it is creating a Stray animation movie, which will also have input from former Disney producers.

Co-head of Annapurna Animation, Richard Baird, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the team is currently working on a Stray film, as the interview with EW occurred straight after a Stray brainstorming session.

Among the team in this animation adaptation will be Andrew Millstein, a former Disney Animation executive.

There is no current deadline as to when the film will air - nor where - although they have been working alongside BlueTwelve to make sure they capture the essence of the game and the character that they created.

Annapurna Animation co-head claims the Stray film will be the "greatest hopepunk movie" ever

Speaking to EW, Baird claimed that the inspiration behind a Stray film was that the game has already become hugely popular, and film watchers will resonate with the comedic and loving feel of Stray despite no humans featuring.

"This is a game that's all about what makes us human, and there are no humans in it. It's a buddy comedy about a cat and a robot, and there's such a hilarious dynamic. So, there's comedy inherent in this, but there's not one human being in this movie," Baird told EW.

"I think, if we are going to do this adaptation justice, this is going to be the first and greatest hopepunk movie that's ever been made."

Stray has already won over the gaming community, so it stands a great chance of being the next furline friend to paw along the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
