If you need to know how to perform a VALORANT name change, and especially for free, you've come to the right place. VALORANT gives players the chance to change their display names if they so choose, with a generous limit on how often it can be done. So if you need to know to change your name in VALORANT, we've got you covered.

  • Why not also check out the best VALORANT settings, so you can see how to get the best performance out of the game.

The first useful piece of information you need for your VALORANT name change is to understand that your display name is shared between some, but not all games from Riot Games. Whether it's Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, or VALORANT, changing your name on one will inevitably change it for all other games as well. Currently, there is no workaround here, so if you want to have separate IDs, you will need to create a new account for the respective game you want to play under a new name.

If you’re fine changing your display name in every title, head over to the Riot Games account login page and sign in with your username and password. If you haven’t done that in a while, it might prompt you to get a security code sent to your email. Slot that in and head to your account settings.

On the very first page, you’re invited to change your Riot ID and your tagline. The Riot ID is your display name, and changing this will allow you to appear with a different name in-game. The tagline is the numbers or letters after the # in when you give your ID out so other players can add you (ie.: GGRecon#HowTo).

You will know that your name change has gone through with all its possible limitations (don’t be naughty!) when the timer for it resets to a month from today’s date like so.

Likely to avoid abuse, there is a limit as to how often you can perform a VALORANT name change. Currently, that wait period is set to 30 days which is gracious but enough to not be too messy from changing it too frequently.

Other limitations are how many and which signs you are allowed to use. Riot IDs can be up to 16 letters long and may contain numbers, so you've got some room for creativity with your VALORANT name change. The tagline is a little more limited and only gives you the option between letters and numbers, capping you at a maximum of five.

That's pretty much all there is to it. Enjoy your new display name as this is all you need to know to about the VALORANT name change.

We also cover how to look at your VALORANT purchase history, so you can see exactly how much you have spent on the game over the years.
