The Wolf Among Us 2: Everything we know so far

The Wolf Among Us 2 is set to grant fans the long-awaited sequel to Telltale Games’ cult classic. Over 10 years after the release of The Wolf Among Us in October of 2013, a sequel is finally on its way.

Do we know when The Wolf Among Us 2 is launching?

While we don't know exactly when The Wolf Among Us 2 is launching, we do know that it was supposed to launch in 2023. However, after a delay, we now know that we should expect to hear more about The Wolf Among Us 2 in 2024.

Like its predecessor, The Wolf Among Us 2 will be released as a series of episodes rather than a singular game. However, the sequel’s episodes are all being developed at the same time.

As such, we can likely expect to see a similar situation to Telltale's The Expanse series, which saw new episodes released every two weeks.

All The Wolf Among Us 2 trailers so far

While a second season of The Wolf Among Us was announced in 2017 and slated to launch in 2018, the dissolution of the original Telltale Games prevented this from coming to fruition. However, the revival of the studio through LCG Entertainment brought The Wolf Among Us and other Telltale Games intellectual properties back to life.

Following this revival, The Wolf Among Us 2 was announced through a brief trailer at The Game Awards in December of 2019. In the announcement trailer, Snow White commends Bigby Wolf for changing his brutish and monstrous ways before asking him to go back to his old ways. The trailer ends with Bigby assuring Snow that she can count on him.

More than two years later, a more in-depth trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2 was shown in February of 2022. In it, Bigby attends a group therapy session where he vaguely describes an altercation he got into with a troublesome trio at the Good Sleep Hotel. Meanwhile, the viewers see the altercation take place in full detail. 

After setting the Scarecrow on fire and taking a beating from the Tin Man, Bigby then transforms into his Big Bad Wolf form. The trailer concludes by revealing the potential launch window and platforms for The Wolf Among Us 2.

Do we know any The Wolf Among Us 2 gameplay details?

No specific details have been announced when it comes to the gameplay in The Wolf Among Us 2. Nevertheless, fans can likely expect to see many of the same gameplay mechanics that defined the first game in the Telltale series.

The Wolf Among Us is an adventure game stylized in a similar manner to a graphic novel. In it, players control Bigby as he investigates murders, explores environments, collects items, picks his path through branching dialogue options, and engages in quick-time events. Fans of the series can likely look forward to a similar gameplay experience in The Wolf Among Us 2, and other Telltale projects like The Expanse.

Naturally, Bigby Wolf and Snow White will both return in The Wolf Among Us 2, even retaining the same voice actors from The Wolf Among Us. The trailers give us some insight into Bigby’s inner conflict, as he attends a therapy session to address his anger while also promising Snow to revert to his former monstrous ways.

We also know from the second trailer that the murderous Dorothy Gale will play some role in The Wolf Among Us 2, alongside the Tin Man and the Scarecrow, who appear to be her henchmen. Dorothy comes off as cool and calculated, casually watching television while she lets the Tin Man and the Scarecrow do all the fighting when Bigby arrives at their hotel room.

Where does The Wolf Among Us 2 fit into the story?

Little has been explicitly revealed about the story of The Wolf Among Us 2. Based on the trailers, it seems Bigby’s inner conflict could play an important role in the story, along with his external conflict with Dorothy and her crew.

In addition, we have a general idea of where The Wolf Among Us 2 fits in the timeline of the series. It is a true sequel to the first game in the series, meaning its events happen after the events of The Wolf Among Us in 1986. However, The Wolf Among Us 2 will still be a prequel to the Fables comics that inspired the video game series. As a result, its events will occur sometime before the Fables plot line begins in the 2000s.

Fans of the series will get to try out this new game on multiple different platforms when The Wolf Among Us 2 launch finally rolls around, as The Wolf Among Us 2 will be available on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
