The Lamplighters League is the next game from developers Harebrained Schemes, which is known for the Shadowrun trilogy and Battletech, giving fans of the studio and turn-based strategy games a new game to look forward to.

The Lamplighters League is a strategy game that takes place in an alternate1930s, featuring a pulp aesthetic and hyper-stylised graphics. The game surrounds a fight between good and evil for control over occult magic, and with evil winning, players will need to assemble a team from the "best of the worst" and defeat them.

So when is the The Lamplighters League being released?

The Lamplighters League will launch on October 3, as shown in the trailer above.

The Lamplighters League trailers

So far we have seen two trailers for The Lamplighters League. The first was an announcement trailer that debuted at the Paradox Announcement Show on March 6, 2023. This was mostly a CGI trailer that showed off three characters searching an ancient tomb before being ambushed by enemy soldiers and a mysterious beast.

The announcement trailer ended by showcasing some quick glimpses of gameplay, including turn-based combat, the world hub map, an agent selection screen, and more.

The second trailer for the game was released online shortly after the Paradox Announcement Show, and showed more in-depth gameplay, spliced with developer interviews.

The Lamplighters League gameplay

The Lamplighters League is primarily a turn-based strategy game, but it does have elements of real-time gameplay, meta mechanics like a world map, and the ability to select which agents you will take on missions.

The real-time strategy gameplay looks to be a typical affair from trailers so far, with action points that dictate what you can do, grid-based movement, percentage hit chances, cover types, abilities, and more. These fights will take place in missions, giving you objectives to reach through turn-based combat, along with optional side objectives.

Before turn-based combat occurs, there is also a real-time infiltration mode, where players can explore the map, marking enemy locations, key areas, and more. A developer gave an example of how in this mode, you can stealthily take down some enemies before going loud and beginning combat, giving you a slight advantage.

We know less about the map, though it looks like a way to select missions and track your overall progress, and we don't have a lot of information on how characters work, though it seems more can be recruited over the course of the story.

The Lamplighters League platforms

The Lamplighters League is confirmed to be releasing on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it will be an Xbox Game Pass day one title for console, PC, and cloud gaming.

On the PC platform, it will be available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
