The Gunk Gardener boss fight comes after making your way up the goop-filled elevator, where you'll reach the innermost chamber of the tower. There, you'll have yet another go at the Gardener. This is a tough fight - as expected since it's the final boss in the game - but is more than doable with our guide. Here's everything you need to know about beating The Gunk Gardener boss fight.

The Gunk Gardener Final Boss Guide: Abilities

As mentioned above, the Gardener final boss in The Gunk is fought in the same chamber where you first encountered him in a previous chapter. On the bright side, there's now a beacon node outside the room. This will let you fast travel back to the dropship in case you need to craft certain equipment upgrades.

Likewise, the Gardener still has only one ability. It's the same laser beam that he's been wielding. As usual, he'll target you for a couple of seconds (denoted by a narrow beam of light). After charging, a bright red pulse will erupt. This is followed by a devastating red beam.

The same concept still applies. Simply use the terminals as cover so you don't get hit.

Then again, before you could continue further, you'll want to look for a panel with yellow lights. Interact with this so Becks could pilot the dropship closer.

Once this happens, Gunk Critters will start spawning. It's possible for the Gardener to kill his own minions if the beam blasts toward their direction.

Likewise, certain equipment upgrades could help you out here. For instance, the Energy Lure can be used to distract them. Alternatively, you can pick up the alien materials that they dropped once they're killed. If you crafted the ATP Extractor, you'll restore a bit of health.

The objective, though, is to look for two switches that you can pull. These are found along the sides of the chamber. They might be blocked by goop or other obstacles, but you can let the beam hit them to destroy whatever is blocking the way.

While the Gardener is still charging his weapon, grab the switch and pull it. Do the same for another switch in the room.

Once you do this, the Gardener's barrier will disappear. Run up to him and "vacuum" the coils on his back. After pulling around three of these, he'll toss you further away.

Concluding The Fight

The second phase of The Gardener final boss battle in The Gunk still follows the same process. The key differences are that more enemy mobs will spawn, and aggressive gunk will float around the area.

The creatures include Gunk Spitters and Gunk Beasts. For the former, make sure you avoid their projectiles. For the latter, you can cause them to ram terminals, walls, or even each other, causing them to get stunned. And, yes, the Gardener's weapon can still annihilate them if they're in the way.

Find two more switches in the chamber and pull them when you can. When you stun The Gardener again, go ahead and disconnect the remaining wires on his back.

He'll finally lose his life force and disappear into the ether. Congratulations! You've defeated the final boss in The Gunk. It's time to watch the game's ending. Why not compare how long the game was for you compared to ourselves, as revealed in our how long is The Gunk guide?
