Star Wars Outlaws is the first open-world game in the franchise's storied gaming history and the first time in a long time that Ubisoft has had its hands on a Star Wars property.

Coming from the same developer as The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Massive Entertainment, the game puts players in the boots of a rogue named Kay Vess, who's out to make a name for herself. Here is everything we know so far about Star Wars Outlaws.

Leaked Star Wars Outlaws release date

While we're still waiting for 'official' confirmation of the Star Wars Outlaws release date, Ubisoft has seemingly leaked the date itself - we can expect to be playing the game on August 30, 2024.

This was revealed in the latest trailer for the game which was supposed to be released at 4 pm on April 9. However, the Japanese version of the trailer was published slightly early. Although Ubisoft was quick to pull it from YouTube, some folks were quick enough to catch a glimpse of the release date from the end.

Star Wars Outlaws will skip last-gen consoles, meaning you'll need an Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, or PC. On PC, it'll launch through Ubisoft Connect.

Star Wars Outlaws gameplay & story info

Ubisoft Forward 2023 gave us a full Star Wars: Outlaws gameplay reveal to close out the show, which you can see below.

Expect stealth takedowns, blaster fire, and slow-mo speeder bikes. It also appears Kay Vess has her own ship, and players can fly into space manually, engaging in dogfights. Planets look varied, too, as the later stages of the trailer show - including a fight against an AT-ST walker.

"When we first imagined the first open-world Star Wars game, we explored where and when it could take place, and quickly realized that we had all the right ingredients for the journey of a scoundrel," said Julian Gerighty, Creative Director at Massive Entertainment.

"These outlaws live life under the thumb of the Galactic Empire, but can still thrive given the opportunities that the criminal underworld opens up for people looking to take advantage of the turmoil," said Douglas Reilly, Vice President of Lucasfilm Games.

“The time is ripe for a new outlaw to make their name, and Kay Vess is written in the stars.

“With Star Wars Outlaws, we’re excited to deliver the first truly open-world Star Wars game, with an action-adventure story filled with characters and planets both new and well-known to the Star Wars galaxy,” Reilly continued.

“We have been working closely with the talented team at Massive Entertainment, and with their years of experience in creating richly detailed worlds, we’re excited for fans to be able to jump into the Star Wars scoundrel fantasy like never before.”

Speaking to Edge Magazine, Creative Director Julian Gerighty gave us some insights into the scale of the open world. Four planets have been confirmed to appear in the game so far, with potentially more to come.

According to Gerighty, each planet will be a hand-crafted location and be comparable in size to "two or three zones in Assassin's Creed Odyssey"

Players will not be able to land their ships wherever they want, as there are set locations for landing and taking off. However, once their boots hit the ground, they can travel across the terrain with "fast-moving vehicles"

That's everything we know so far about Star Wars Outlaws.
